Everytime I hear about Star Wars I get a sick feeling. I think these movies are horrible B movies. Bad directing, bad editing and bad acting.

Yes yes I know some of you think this is the greatest story every - what about those of you who hate it?

For me there's star wars/star trek on one side and lord of the rings on the other. I'll take the fantasy

I hate the NEW ones.

The old ones I like but I don't think they are the most wonderful achievement of modern movies or anything. They're good movies, they were amazing technologically for their time, but they're not the best things i've ever seen. A lot of movies have better directing, screenplays, acting, etc.

And what is with George Lucus and his love of the "wipe" edit?

Ah, I see.

Still, I think he coulda done a little less of it. Homage or not, we don't need it EVERY TIME A SCENE CHANGES.

Then again, as much as I may enjoy the older star wars movies, I now want George Lucas to be punished, the bastard. Him and Spielburg.

you mean you're from MY generation. Eh I just don't get them. Although I do have a surreal story about seeing the Empire Strikes Back.

I saw it the first time I ever visited Santa Barbara, I was like 2 years old and saw it with my dad at this theatre there. Anyways when they rereleased the movie I was living in Santa Barbara and I went there to see it. The last time I saw that movie I was sitting the same theatre but a lifetime later. Oh and I sat in the same section too. I still trip out about that. Damn I need drugs.

Yeah, thanks to George Lucas's apparent drop in IQ, the name Star Wars has pretty much gone to the shitter, if you don't say "the old" before it.

Just watch ... if things continue to go downhill as they have, episode 3 is gonna have a purple-bordered star wipe between every scene ...

They couldn't have tarnished the name of Star Wars more if they had wanted to. The incompetence is really pretty amazing.

The first one came out when I was 11, and I liked it. It didn't drive me crazy like other the kids. I didn't bother seeing the others until years after the fact. I still haven't seen episode 1 or 2.

For the time, it was audacious and well done. The problem for me is that George Lucas is one corny motherfucker. I even felt that when I was 11. I can't take it.

Should I tell you about the time my best friend crank called him? biggrin

I was a die hard star wars fan. Used to watch it all the time.

Sometime around 1991, it suddenlt became very trendy again. It had acheived some sort of cult status but ut was about to become overmarketed and played-out.

The first time I ever saw an URL on a billboard was for star wars. Way back in 1995.

It's a throwback to the old 1930's "serial" movies -- they did wipes like that between scenes all the time. Lucas once said that the Star Wars series was sort of an hommage to the serials.

Huh, I thought it was an homage to Kurosawa.

I hate star wars. I have this theory about boys and their dads bonding over it and that is why it is so popular. spending quality time with the pop who was generally an absentee figure from most gen xers life. good memories and all that. whatever. start flaming me. i know hero's journey and all that blah blah blah.
