How many 81 year old rebels are out still rebelling it up? Hubert Selby's body is ravaged by disease but he still has that wry intelligent and self-deprecating sense of humor that made his novels Last Exit to Brooklyn and Requiem for a Dream still memorable since they were both published over a quarter of a century ago. Many people have thought he was brought back into the public with the release of Darren Aronofsky's film version of Requiem for a Dream but he is still writing his books with his...

that was fabulous!!!!!!!! one of if not the most amazing interviews i've read in a long time.

he is so funny and so dead on with what he has to say. i kept forgetting that he was this 81 year old man that was supposed to be dying or that he was this huge author of high acclaim. it was like reading a conversation with a guy that you met at a divey bar or something.

i don't know if i'm expressing myself well enough but i just finished reading it and my mind is still reeling from it and all the emotions and ideas that it conjured up.

That is your best one yet DRE! Really excellent interview.

I love the perspective on life from 81 years and not unrealistically pollyanna about it.

Great interview, an honest and strangely moving look at an artist who could have been dead many times over, but has lived on to produce so many lasting works of art.

God, we definetley need some of that observation and humility. Hopefully, we're not too far off the tracks to make life sensible. 81 years young. What a mind. Thank you for interviewing this man.

Hubert (Cubby) came to my wedding. He gave us this coolest ever little candle holder made out of metal, with a mouse reading a book as its motif. It was the cutest wedding gift we got!

We knew it was coming, but it's a sad day nonetheless. This should have its own thread.

Terrible news. He was one of those authors that doesn't let you put the book down until you're done.
