Ok,

I'm not sure why this made me so happy but...
I was walking home (NYC) and I passed a radio shack, it was around 11PM so the store was closed and for some reason they were getting rid of a lot of their toy-like stuff. So they just set the stuff out in boxes on the street...
I scored a sweet looking foot-tall robot, 2 remote control monster trucks (without the remotes, but I always wanted one as a kid, so it sort of completes that long forgotten wish), a purple hippopotamus flashlight thingee and this kid's keyboard that has a fake turntable on it!
It's so stupid, but it made me feel so good to find these "things". It's like the universe was saying "buck up camper, things will get better..here's a monster truck and a robot to prove it.
OK...so then...what is the coolest thing you've ever found in the street...(I'm already saying "hooker, bum and dog shit, so think of something else)

Once I found a shopping cart with an old engine on it. Yes, a car engine. It was heavy and dirty and didn't follow me home.

Al,

You should've looked around the neighborhood, maybe there was a whole, free car, just laying in pieces waiting to be put together and driven home.
I mean, hey you never know...

i used to know a girl that would pull over whenever she saw roadkill. she would take it home and do little creepy tests on it and then bury it in the field behind her house. i've never found anything in the street except myself when i used to drink.....

Cool but sad - In 6th grade I hade a rural paper route and I was walking by a freshly dead possum - when I went by I saw something moving and it turns out the possum had like four or five lil alive babies on its belly - their eyes were still closed but they were furry and cute and it was such a moment of heartbreak because I knew my parents would never let me help them

- some time later my Dad found a mouse nest full of babies outside and was calling our cats to kill them - I grabbed them all, yelled at my parents and kept them warm in a lit box and fed them at all hours for a few days - my Mom would find me up at 4am trying to syringe them milk and look at me like I was crazy - they started dying and I told her they needed formula cause the milk wasn't enough but she didn't really care and put off buying any - By the time I was able to get formula there was only one left - I came home and found the last one had just died - I remember sitting with this tiny thing in my hands and wishing upon anything that it would come back to life - Anyway that part was totally off topic and prolly rather silly to most of you - my memory just kinda spills out sometimes whatever

A first printing of Slaughterhouse Five, in perfect condition. We were driving around town on trash day, and stopped for these rediculously large army PA speakers, and there it was sitting on top of a pile of books. At first I was psyched because its one of my favorite books. Then I realized that its worth a couple hundred bucks.
