You're doomed if you have any felonies in your record for sure...also maybe if you have really bad credit (like me).

Also, if you have a common name, check it really carefully...a lot of the time other people's stuff comes up.

a friend of mine became a cop, they have a very extensive back ground check. They never found out about the time he went to the hospital after taking some acid, and a bunch of other not so nice stuff about him. So I highly doubt you have anything to worry about. Just make sure you give good references, and you will be fine.

Having had experience in the law enforcement field, I've been subject to a battery of background checks.

When I applied for the U.S. Capitol Police I had to be interviewed while attached to a polygraph.

My fingerprints are on record with so many law enforcement agencies, that if I did want to commit a crime, they'd be on me before I could finish the thought.

former employers by law can only say how long you worked, how much you made and how you left (without giving reason if you were fired). Pretty much name rank and serial number.

Are you hiding something? hmmmm?

I think you're only doomed if you got some really big skeleton in your closet. Most big companies to that to weed out felons and so forth. I think misdemeanors and stuff they're more understanding about. If it's any consolation, I got hired at my present job right after getting pinched...so...

..the whizz quizzes are pretty easy to pass if you get the right stuff. Go to a local headshop and they can give you some stuff that will beat it. It may put you back 30 bucks, but that's small change in the big picture.

Hope this helps...

When I was graduating college, I got a job offer from a prestigious company, and they asked for a pee test. I was living with 3 total stoners, so i locked myself in my room for the next 2 weeks, cuz the house was always so fulla pot smoke.

I passed wink

I suspect most companies don't check as thoroughly as u might think, but they will pull ur criminal history and get the lab results. They won't pull your financial records though I don't think.

Only if you indulge in MJ 'cause that stays in your system for a long time. I had to pee in a cup to work for CP Rail on a steel gang...all I did all summer was pound spikes into railway ties...good thing I wasn't stoned eh? I might not have pounded it in the regulation depth.

Just wait till they give you the two hour psyc examine over the phone. And, ask the same damn question ten different ways.
And, I was paying them to work!!

Oh, you all forgot.. The future employer can ask any previous jobs. If they'll rehire you or not. That tends to be the line drawn. Hope ya didn't burn any bridges! And, if you did.. Don't point them out. Hah.

I've also gone through the hair tests for certain jobs. Which included blood samples, phsyicals and fingernail clippings. Be happy, peeing in a freaking cup. Is nothing. Except.. You're hands are always cold in the doctors office..

If the company is worth their salt they will look for certain elements that the head shop stuff removes.

good luck crackhead! or is it strange serial killer stuff? and or are you a member or an internet porn site? freak!!!

There's nothing to worry about? if you have something to hide, then figure it'll take a month for them to finish the checks enjoy the good paycheck.

if they don't find your sorted past then you're in. ... until the office xmas party when you let slip your infamous past to a chte female (or male) co-worker and you have to kill them!

nevermind good luck with your past

private companies can't look at medical records. They will look at credit history to see if the prospective employee owes a lot of money and might be succeptable to financial blackmail or espionage incentives. They will look at your criminal history and your history of civil litigation. If you exist in a public database, they'll find you. So if you were the contact record for that plushophile or white power website, they'll find out, if they're any good.

With certain exceptions, they don't care f you're a member of a 12 step program or have been treated for a mental illness as long as you're stable and addressing the issues of your addiction or disorder in a formal way (meetings, therapy).

I've had to drug test at least four of five times and I've passed every one ... being a pothead and all, that's a good record. I used the 'Carbo-Clean' powder mix immediately before each test and have had no problems. It's available at your local GNC.

I've had three background tests done ... with one being governmental (I had to submit a 16 page questionnaire) and got through them fine, as well, despite numerous misdemeanor arrests as a teen.

Unless you have a felony conviction, you should sail right on through.

GOOD LUCK!!

I've only worked at one reasonably big-ass company before and got no such scrutiny.
Actually, I got no such treatment at all. But that was before 9/11.
That talking to the neighbors deal sounds a bit unusual ...
Have things become at all tighter, does anyone know, in light of the whole 'homeland security' thing?
I'm sure subcontracting HR firms would milk that for all it's worth.

Anyhow, good luck with the whiz quiz. Dont shake too hard.

I helped do some hire a Executive Director for a government agency. Anyhow the leading canidate did not get hired because he lied about his financial records.
It was not so much that he had a bad finacial record, it was that he did not say anything or explain the situation until they confronted him.

Just do not lie, unless they ask something on the test like would you steal or some crap like that. Then lie because they asked you a dumbass question.

If something is on there that you think they might find out sometimes it is best to explain the situation than let them find out. Most companies do not like suprises.

background checks are scary. i have a friend that works at the white house and before they hired her on, they listened to all her phone calls, and would randomly call people that she knew... people she babysat for, teachers, friends, family. it was weird.
