Joe Jackson has confounded just about everyone who ever heard his name at some point over the course of his twenty-five year career, critics and fans alike. His relentless pursuit of the muse led him from the edgy, biting new-wave of his classic 1978 debut record Look Sharp, and it's follow-up I'm The Man, on to the worldly reggae of Beat Crazy, the jump blues of Jumpin' Jive, and the sophisticated jazzy pop of Night and Day in the space of five records and as many years.

Popular success came...

Having just seen Joe last week perform in Brooklyn.
I know he has it t ight,very tight.Great backing
band and great songs.
The first time I saw Joe was 1979 in central park(yes, they
had real live contects in there for like $8 a show.)
Believe me he is still the real deal.

What a pleasant surprise to find an interview with the Man on SG!! I've been a fan all my life. I caught the band's show at the Fillmore SF a few weeks back, and it was just amazing. They sounded fantastic, and band and crowd had a great time. The new album is terrific, and some include a limited edition live disc recorded at a warm-up gig last year. Git it!

Er, by the way, Joe, that "no smoking in bars" ban in California has substantially decreased the illness & cancer rate for tavern employees. But I still love ya! biggrin

My favorite Joe Jackson quote came from an old Creem interview where he said something like "For me, writing is just like taking a shit. I can't help but do it"

I saw him on Conan O'Brian and he seemed like he had his shit together!

But man I didn't know he was that tall! He was eye to eye with Conan who's a freak he's so tall!

Okay everybody seems tall from my view point of my 5' 6" stature. wink

Look Sharp! has been in may personal rotation since rediscovering it last summer. This interview (popping up again today, 4/19/08) was a nice surprise and a good read.
