I know a lot of people who have tried Netflix - I have found that too many of their packets come undone in mailing. Has anyone tried this DVD Overnight service? I'm curious as to what their performance is as compared to Netflix... if anyone has any praise or horror stories, give it up here...

So far, I love netflix, but they don;t some films I want. The cool part is that I can mail a movie back on monday afternoon and have a new one by lunch on wednesday.

I'm liking it.

Yeah, I actually tried Netflix last year. I never received one movie i requested, and two came late and taped up after having been previously opened (I assume). I decided to not subscribe for awhile thinking that they probably had kinks to work out. And yeah, Tuffy, they are no Kim's Video in the selection dept. One thing the other service has going for it looks to be *cough* porn *cough*.

i absolutely love netflix. i've only been a member since january, but i've had no problems so far. they did randomly send me the movie 'city by the sea' (horrible!) once, but we can let that slide.

how excellent it is to come home from a long day at work and have a new movie waiting for you...

i love netflix! but i've noticed that the farther you live from southern california (where they are based) the more problems you encounter. it takes less than 2 days for them to receive and mail out DVD's to me . rock on!

they ship from a few different places. for example, i live in indiana and my dvds come from michigan. it takes a couple of days, but i can't complain.

I am giving this one a shot instead of resigning with Netflix. They're a little more expensive, but they specialize in lesser-known titles, anime, and they have a naughty section. That includes naughty anime. Lordy.

They also feature one of my favorite film blogs: GreenCine Daily

When I started Netflix every movie would come with the sticker tabs of the envelope ripped. Certain new releases would never make it to the house. I called up the postmaster and raised hell. Haven't had a single broken seal in the months since.

I mean, look: they have a section devoted to films recommended by Johnathan Rosenbaum. These are my kind of people.

how does this netflix work anyways? i'm guessing membership etc etc... but isn't mailing the dvd back a touch expensive? seeing how paranoid i am, i'd have to insure every one....

I just dropped NetFlix for Blockbuster. It takes a day longer to get a movie but I get coupons for 2 free rentals per month (with no late fee) at my local blockbuster. Plus it's $3 cheaper than NetFlix. Plus they have games. So far I like it just as much as NetFlix.

I love Netflix. Once I had a DVD arrive broken, like the mailman sat on it, but otherwise have had no issues. Maybe your letter carrier is an asshole who likes to steal from you. There are lots of those out there even though it's a federal offense.

Besides a couple "bad" DVDs (scratched), I have absolutely no complaints with Netflix and haven't tried anything else.

Netflix has opened distribution centers all over the country. The first time I was with Netflix, my movies were coming out of Georgia, which meant a 2 day delivery time either way. Now, they come out of the distribution center in Louisville, which means next day delivery/return. So I can watch a movie on Monday, return it on Tuesday, have the new one on Thursday.
