Much has been made of file sharing mp3's, but as soon as I started playing aorunbd with file sharing services like kazaa I realized the potential in other areas. I have not taped one episode of buffy this year but have also not missed one. I did not bother to get HBO and I'm still only about 2 wks behind on Six Feet Under. I found out that some of my favorite bands actually have videos!!

I want to know what else you use and abuse file sharing for?

where is the Law & Order? I don't mean a crackdown on filesharing...no, filesharing is good. I mean you used to be able to d/l Law & Order in spades from newsgroups, and now *poof*, it's never there anymore. Woe is me.

But yeah, I agree...who needs cable?

The cable modem has pretty much erased the need to go to blockbuster. Unless I want to rip a dvd to put on my newly built video server.

My cousin Gar is a professional musician and he burns more cd's for me than anyone I know, so I've sorta stopped feeling sorry for "those poor musicians". Plus, buying music is a really inefficient way of supporting bands and a really good way of supporting multinational corporations.

If you want to support artists, go see them live and give them money through the gate that they actally get to keep.

Or just send them the few bucks that they'd get from the record company and a nice card. This always surprises and amuses most of the band members I know. Someone once sent a friend of mine a case of cat food. Babycakes ate like the princess she is.

I think buffy gets paid anyway.

I pay for my small company software. Microsoft? Uh, ahem. No comment. In public. But if you need SQL server, Visio, Project, Exchange server, Office XP, Windows XP pro or 2000 pro or server, Fox Pro 8.0, or any of the development environments I might know a guy who knows a guy. Oh, or SMS.

But, on the whole topic, I only wish I could download hardware.

i love Kazaa lite for that very reason. I download way more television than music.

In Canada, we don't get American Cable channels, so if I want to see Six Feet Under, the Sopranos, Farscape or South Park, I have to download it. And that's what I do.

I watched a whole season of Six Feet Under in about 10 days, and that was all thanks to Kazaa. Whoo-hoo!

Kazaa lite rocks.

If I were a musician, I would be less worried about someone downloading my music, and more worried about the way record companies treat artists like dogshit.

Besides, when someone recommends a band to me I D/L a few songs and if I like it, i buy it. I buy a lot more music these days than I did before file sharing.

Plus I can get Anime Music Videos, Gay midget porn (sometimes) and all kinds of other stuff.

Of course I scan the hell out of any software with Norton Antivirus...

I also get snippets of formula 1 races and college hockey games that I would otherwise never be able to see.

Without WinMX, I never would've found:
* The Star Wars Holiday Special
* That banned Seinfeld episode
* Every Family Guy episode
* The American Red Dwarf pilot
* Heatvision and Jack

I love file "sharing".

I use things like Kazaa to download a lot of tv shows that they don't play enough of on tv. Right now things like Inu Yasha and Clone High. I do watch these shows when they're on but they only play so many episodes or they're hardly ever on. And where the hell else am I gonna get a copy of the Thundercats intro in Avi format.
