I have a serious problem with the fact that you called it "trashy indulgence"
dc vertigo is my youth, my job, my friends, my mind, my present. I am friends with several of the artists, writers, editors. Shade the changing man and The Invisibles (by my wonderful grant) speak to the core of my being. So many little one shots throughout time.
Currently lucifer and more. List could go on forever. Tyrade could occur.

Preacher really effected me. Jesse Custer was a total role model growing up. Too bad the art and writing became shitty for a little bit. Almost unbearable.

I'm a big ol' DC and Vertigo fan. Among my Vertigo favorites are Sandman, Lucifer, Hellblazer, Swamp Thing, the Invisibles, Fables, Transmetropolitan, Shade the Changing Man, Animal Man, Doom Patrol, Beware the Creeper, Kill Your Boyfriend, You Are Here, Totems, Kid Eternity, Black Orchid, Books of Magic, Sandman Mystery Theater, Mobfire, and Skin Graft.

Never learned to like Preacher much, though. I like cynical (I love Transmetropolitan after all), but this was so cynical it became boring.

Whew. And replies like these...

vertigo is my youth,

i encountered a picture of the corinthain when i was 13.

Just when I thought I was done with comics for good, that I had totally outgrown everything they had to offer, I discovered Sandman. Then I got hooked on a bunch of other Vertigo stuff and eventually even drawn back into a lot of other comics. I can't believe how much I spend on comics.

I regret that I missed out on Shade the Changing Man and Doom Patrol, since these have not been printed in trade paperback form. I have collected quite a few of the individual issues, but I have a ways to go.

My current favorites are:

Y the Last Man
Fables
Hellblazer
Lucifer

Lucifer, Y, Preacher, Books of Magic... vertigo is awesome. Why did Hunter have to suck so much?

Some of it great stuff some of it is terrible. Some I feel is just weird for the sake of being weird.
I love 100 bullets.I love Brien Azarullo ( God I know I hacked that name without looking it up) Also almost anything that Warren Ellis writes is good stuff. Garth Ennis is sometimes a little too one note, seeking to shock with every panel, but he is a decent writer most of the time. I think it is a haven for wonderful writers and wonderful artists, but I know some fanboys who will say it is great simply because it's Vertigo, and that's lame.

Something from the good old days.

I wonder where I found that "Sleep while we operate" poster, and what does it signify?
