I use the start menu almost exclusively. I have four things on my desktop....

Hey mate, if you use XP, go to Folder Options in Control Panel and turn on 'single click to open an item'
You won't catch me wasting valuable time double clicking things when i can do it with one!

No no no no... You've all got it wrong!
Winbutton+D clears the desktop for easy access to frequently used icons and a simple tap on the Winbutton pops up the start menu for easy access to the "Run.." control...
(Or if you're old skool like me; "Ctrl+Esc-UpArrow-UpArrow-Enter" and no single clicks on icons for me, thank you very much....)
Also try Winbutton+E ... no more rightclicking the fucking computer icon (except to select "manage")....
You guys've gotta learn vi's motto; keyboards are faster, you loose each time you move your hands from the home position.
Not that I can touch-type worth shit...

practice pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del if you're a left-handed jerker OR

I use my keyboard almost exclusively also.
My right hand is alway on my...erm... mouse
And my left on my keyboard. Longlive keyboard shortcuts!

well my computers still pretty new, I finally got one just a few months ago, so I feel kinda inadequate...
this is what I've got, but maybe my desktop will be more interesting soon.
and pervypunk... hot hot desktop. I'm confused whether its you or someone else, boy or girl, but I still want to jump whoever it is.

i agree with cherry... whenever i see threads like this people nearly give me heart attacks when i see what their desktop looks like. i can't handl having icons on my desktop, it stresses me out
