wow. perspective is _so_ interesting. I find oxalis to be an almost uncontrollable weed,it takes over _everything_. and takes a great deal of effort to erradicate...it's up there with snails and nasturtium and star thistle as one of my gardens' arch enemies.
people are neat, such a wide range of experiences we all have...feel free to come grazing in my oxalis patches and bring a healthy appetite

We called it sourgrass - chewed on it til we got queasy!
Hey, a dog peed on that one!biggrin

We also had indian chewing gum (anise fiber with the seeds mixed in) and also the big purple bell shaped flowers that had a little drop of sweetness on the end! What were those called?

Ah to be back in the hills...

We call it sourgrass. I have it in my yard & the kids love it. They can spot it on the roadside from a hundred yards while going 80.

I never even heard of it until they learned about it.

I also have those purple "honey flowers" - They don't get much of a chance around here. I find little sucked out flower corpses strewn all over the front yard.

What about miner's lettuce?

They looksort of familiar, but I don't believe I have ever eaten any, just mostly focused on the clovers.

It.s got a small flower with a leaf that sits on the stem like a little plate. No real flavor to speak of (unless the neighbor's dog has been in the yard.)

That's miner's lettuce smile
A walk in the wood is like a trip to the salad bar!
My all-time favorites are red huckleberries, thimbleberries and salmonberries.

i called them 'sourgrass' when i was a kid, too. i loved them.

there's even a 10" record by Tiger Trap called 'sourgrass,' which contains a song of the same title.
