God bless the Flowbee.

I usually take a picture with me. That way the stylist have some idea what I'm talking about.
Just because I think I'm describing it perfectly, doesn't mean s/he'll see it perfectly.

But I get the shit end of salon business unless I find somebody that really knows what they're doing. Cause I like unnatural hair colors and "suicidegirl type" hair styles and I've brought in pictures of hair styles that are typically on white models to a black stylist and she wont do it. Just because of that. So, I'll take it to a white stylist and she doesnt know what to do with my texture of hair.

*sigh*

And that's why I'm in cosmotology school now.
I want to be able to do anybodies hair and my own hair.
And the girls in my school, who are mainly black, are sooo hung up on only doing other black girls hair.
I keep telling them, I'll just make more money cause I'm equal opportunity.
And as much as they talk about money, you'd think they would be too.

I boogie down to Supercuts every few months and say, "um, just trim it up a bit." And everything works out in the end. They always seem a bit surprised that, even if it's a lousy haircut, I don't worry about it too much.

Good Haircut Story...

apparently Billy Bob Thornton got that haircut for his character in Sling Blade by walking into the barbershop in the southern town where they were gonna shoot and he just told the barber to give him the regular.

How do you tell a person to cut your hair?

Okay, here's what you do:

1) Realize that to get a good haircut you might have to pay a little more than you're used to.
2) Find someone with kick-ass hair and ask them who cuts their hair. That's how I found my stylist -- she does my hair and Anger's hair and she's just as good at girl hair as guy hair.. and she works at Regis at the mall.
3) Think of a cool actor or actress or other famous person whose style you dig. Decide if their hair is like yours in texture, length, etc. Remember that a lot of famous people get their hair texturized and put a lot of product in their hair to get it to look like that.
4) Print out lots of pictures of the famous person wearing the hairstyle you like.
5) Take them to your stylist and ask these questions:
a) "What does this person do to get their hair like this?"
b) "Would it be possible for my hair to look similar to this?"
c) "What would I have to do to my hair to style it like this on a daily basis?"
d) "Would you be able to make my hair look like this?" -- a good stylist will answer honestly.

smile I've had some kick-ass haircuts recently for the first time in my life. Now if I could just go back to having the multicolors I want...

I do the same thing. My hairdresser asks me what I want, I tell him to have fun and I walk out with something cool every time. I've been going to the same hair dresser since I was 15 and have loved every cut that he's given me. He's the only person I trust with cutting my hair now and would never think of going anywhere else. He's expensive but it's worth it, and he gives me a discount just 'cause he likes me.

Last time he decided to keep it long... which was cool at the time, but it's been awhile since that cut and no my hair's really long and I've been looking at old pics of me and I miss my short hair.... I'm getting it all cut off again by the end of the month.

I try to get my hair styled a couple of times a year, and get it cut by a barber the rest of the time. However, I'll forget about it for 6 months at a time because of school, then suddenly my hair has grown to my shoulders and I look like someone recently released from a 17th century Spanish prison.

i recently cut my own hair (using clippers and a bic). see my profile pic for previous style. it's painful, but i can say that now, 3 weeks later i have a comfortable amount of hair. i wish it grew faster though. i have a stylist back home and usually let her do "new" styles at her own discretion. it's a matter of trust. and thanks to her i've had a bunch of cool haircuts before the trend matured (skipped the faux-hawk on the grounds it's ridiculous). anyways if i am going to pay more than $8 for a haircut, talk must be included in the price. i hate it when you go to one of those cheaper places and they don't say anything to you. maybe it's because they can't speak english.

edit: and also when i was a kid and the blue jays were good i got really sad because i wanted a haircut like joe carter (flat top) but i'm white.

I don't know if this is the same problem, I don't think so... but I have no idea what to tell them...

I don't want to look like any celebrity, and my hair is a huge pain in the ass to style. I have hated every haircut I've ever had.

now my hair is so long (i've gotten it cut once in the las 12 months) it's silly.

I never know what to tell the girl, so she never knows what to do and then she does something I hate and I don't figure it's her fault so I say thanks and leave and don't come back for 6 months!
