A girl I date was using the patch, but she had a bad reaction to it and had to switch back to the pill. But to put you at ease, she is has had bad reactions to a lot of different medicines.

i'm using the patch. i thought it was a great idea but i am starting to think its not. its great that i dont have to think about it everyday, but i think the pills are easier. side effects were much less with the patch though. the only thing is, its supper annoying. it leaves this weird stickyness around the patch sometimes, like when the stickyness comes of bandades and then it gets all dirty..lol you know what i mean. anyway, it also bunches when you stretch, like when you put on wallpaper and there are like creases that didnt stick. plus my edges keep coming off and i have to replace the whole patch. i dunno, this is just my experience. its so worrysome. poppin one pill is so much easier then worrying if the shower will make it come off (sometimes it makes the edges peel). after this i am switching back to the pill. shocked hope that helped!!!

I use Depo Provera shots. They're great because you're baby-free and your period stops. WooHoo!

You poor dear! I have heard of that happening, but I think that it only occurs in a small percentage of users.

the idea of constantly wearing something that feels like a bandaid or nicotine patch does not appeal to me. do you at least remove it one week a month so you can have a period? i did the depo shots and hated the side affects. chronic fatigue, vertigo, and depression being the worst. and it took me a year after i stopped it for my body to get back to normal and for me to have a period again. i am now on a low-dosage pill and i have not had any side affects at all. and girls, i think there is something unhealthy about not having a period on a monthly basis.

I use the Nuva Ring. Same concept as the patch but you keep it in for 3 weeks and then take it out for one. After your period you put in a new one. Sooo easy and way less side effects than the pill.

I hated the depo-provera shots as well.... I bled for 45 days straight!! Headaches, nausea, I would not recommend it at all. However, once you have adjusted to the birth control patch Amina, let us know how it worked for you. confused

My sister is in the med biz, and she tells me she sees more women get pregnant while using the patch, than any other form of birth control. It was enough to sway me not to use it. I'm on the depo-prevera shot m'self.

i don't know. . .i've been taking bc pills since i started my period when I was seventeen. i should have never started. i had two week long periods and two months without and doctors told me it was the only way to regulate me. I went to endocrinologists and this and that pertaining to my vagina and I'm just sick of it all.

My opinion. I've seen too many women and teenage girls on birth control pills to regulate periods, for acne, for pms cramps, for a million different reasons. Is everyone on the freakin pill? Doctors say it's better for you, it'll decrease risks of cervical cancer, but the last thing I want to do is take birth control pills till menopause and then take hormones till I die. What's the deal.

I'm really angry about this subject and I'm sure my vagina is too. I'm sick of wondering if I have some infection, or std, or the color of discharges, and oh my god what's this ache and pain and cramp, why is my body doing this or that.

I'm I a hypochrondriac here? Or do other people experience anxiety about their vaginas. I could go to the gynocologist every six months and I have, from some worry or fear of having an abnormal pap smear.

I'm not taking the damn patch, shots, or pills. I stopped taking them and I didn't have a period for almost a year so I had to go back on them again. I tried again and I just don't know what to do. It's so frustrating. I can never get an honest answer from any gyncologist who cares or listens. frown

I think the patch is really bad. i used to work at Planned Parenthood and we would try to match the right pill, or type of birth control, to the right girl. Then when Ortho tri-cyclen came out the company that made that pill started giving doctors more money for pushing their product and that's how it's been ever since. Besides, how can something that is constantly pumping drugs into you be good? Also, estrogen has been known to cause cancer in women so you must be careful. I'm all for birth control but not when it's pushed onto people by drug companies just out to make a quick buck. So do your own research, find a good doctor and choose what you feel is best for you.

I am off all hormones. Took the pill for severe cramps, got migraines. I felt like shit constantly...and we're talking years of my life here. Like close to a decade. Never again. My body can figure out what it needs on its own without constant hormonal interference.

I was on the depo shot for years...didn't get a period for one year, then started to bleed for 3 weeks straight. it was the opposite of having a normal period....3 weeks on, 1 week off. so I stopped it, and the doc put me back on the pill to 'regulate.' I have stopped that too, because I want to let my body get back to some sort of normalcy.

well I started taking the pill before i was even sexually active. . .people mistunderstood and thought, "oh she must be having sex." not that it matters. . .but it seemed to be the only to have a regular predictable period. i had a friend who took it for her acne and another for cramps. . .it's not just a birth control pill. . .the estrogen. . .I'm sure you are aware. . .helps women in different ways. . .but i feel like doctors hand it out like candy. . .of course each pill reacts differently with each woman. . .but if I had a normal period. . .i wouldn't touch the shit. it's screwed my cycle up (i think)
i agree with the above comment. . .about pharm. companies. that's how they're able to dole out three free packs of pills when i go to the doctor.

i totally agree...but my doctor told me that she recommends the patch only cause i have severe depression, which a lot of doctors dont take into account. the drugs mess with your hormones and therefore your mood is affected. so people with depression should take ones with smaller doses or something (this is all what she said...very losely lol) and since the patch is on all the time, the dosage going in to your body at one time is less because it is always on you, so the mood reactions are more stabalized.

now i dont know if this is true, but this is what my doctor told me so i trusted tht cause i dont need my depression to get any worse. does anyone know anything about this??

In case you care what a guy has to say about it...my girl has been using the patch for a few months now and she loves it. She had a lot of trouble remembering to take the pill (damn potheads), so this makes things easier for her. She hasn't had any problems keeping it on and while she felt very sluggish when she first started on it, she seems to have gotten past that pretty well.
