OK, this seems to be the year for FF, with Chronicles (i believe it is) coming out soon, XI, X-2, and quite possibly Tactics 2 coming out sometime this year, as I understand.
So now I ask, which are you looking forward to the most?
In reverse order...
-I abhor the idea of XI, I mean FF is cool, but definately not for a MMORPG, and especially since it's supposed to have NO offline mode...
-Chronicles may be ok, esp if you liked the old games and like seeing new life breathed into them.
-X-2 looks promising, but I will have to see how they pull it off. The mid-battle outfit change seems a bit rediculous (FF's versoin of Barbie Dress-Up?), but it does have Lulu coming back, and the new girl Paine is absolutely yummy.
-Tactics 2 I really wanna see how they do on. I was a huge Tactics fan, even if it had little to no story, realistically. But it was a new step for the series, and done decently. If they improve on it, this game will r0x0r the b0x0r.
if you ask me, we need a new Chrono Trigger game...and not that shitty Chrono Cross bull, i mean a REAL Chrono Trigger game...going back to Crono and Marle and Frog... *sigh* those were the days...

Yea! More FF games that I can stop playing in the middle of. Anyone know what platform the new ones are going to be for? I only have my trusty Dreamcast and PSX. I want to get a PS2 or XBOX, but I don't know which one to get. Or where to get a used one cheap.
okay, before i continue.. it's FF origins that's final fantasy 1 and 2, chronicals was the chrono trigger/ ff4 double disc
continuing on.. yes, FF11 sounds retarded, but it'll be an excuse for me to get an online adapter and start playing tony hawk 3 and 4 online too.
i think FF10-2 is a good idea, especially with the job ring system and lack of linearity they plan on incorporating into the game, i loved the job systems in FF5 and tactics...
as far as tactics 2, i think that's for game cube isn't it? so i'd have to buy a GC before i start caring (which i plan on anyways) also, i thought that tactics had a pretty decent story, it was like story telling chess in a way.
however i'm a bit more ramped about Xenosaga coming out on friday... the sound of watching 20 minute CG cut scenes telling a deep involving story with an actual involving battle system and other such cum worthy tidbits is music to my ears.
and i think i'm the only person who liked chrono cross, also i think FF is still really innovative, and i'm not just talking because they change the upgrade system everygame, and all the storys as far as i'm concerned always hook me for the 50-100 hours i'm gonna spend trapped in that digitized world, be it walking around the deserts of figaro, climbing wrecked structures in the slums of midgar, killing stuff in the training room of balamb garden, or playing cards in treno, FF has always been a cut above all other RPG videogames in terms of story, graphics, character development, and battles. and they're the only games outside of lunar that's made me really care about the characters.
that's all i'm gonna bore you with... and no i don't work for square

Chrono Trigger is one of the best games ever.....I have Chrono Cross, but haven't gotten around to playing it.

Whew, I hate to start fanboy arguments twice in a row, but you sir, are out of your mind. Chrono Cross was an incredible game. From the many different characters, to the battle system, to the music, the story, that game had it all. Tell me you at least played through it? (Caveat: I have fonder memories of Chrono Trigger, but Chrono Cross was really damn good.)
Crono Cross was more of a sequel to the game Radical Dreamers than anything else.
The game also has too many characters, hardly any attatchment to most of them could be formed.
It wasn't to the level of Konami's Suikoden series, but I felt it was pretty darn close.
I could care less about FF11. I'm not interested in online play at all. But I am looking forward to FF12 like crazy! There isn't alot of word on it yet, but I have seen some screenshots in PSM or GameInformer.
FFX-2 looks very interesting, but I fear it's gonna be a little too girl-oriented. I mean changing your clothes in battle? Are Yuna and Rikku pop stars now?
Tactics2 I think is only gonna be on Gamecube so I'll never play it although the original was pretty damn addicting.
FFOrigins would be cool if I had alot of time, but all my free time is spent here so......
I would really love to see a remake of FF7 for PS2 or PS3!!!
If you think the core of FF is boring your'e just not hardcore enough. There's shit to do even in 8 and I've got FFX games over 180 hours without breaking a sweat.
What about the Excalibur II quest in IX? There's a lot you can do and doing each game over differently. I even love getting down to the formulas and mechanics for each game and comparing them.
I think it all stemmed from really trying to understand tactics. I'm looking forward to FFX-2 the most right now, it'll be pretty silly and just a final fanatsy charlies angels, but the job classes seem interesting and I'm hoping the work out some of the loose ends in X.
Character design in it seems completely lame though, I don't know what they did Rikku and Lulu is to Spartacus as Payne is to Hot Topic. It should be fun though.
I want my tonberry plushy now!!!!! STUPID E_BAY!!!!
well 8 had terrible character design and development and some downright stupid plot twists, no armour and while I actually liked junctioning, I hated having stock magic.
I liked it though, it had some good points,
I really like 10 too, but it basically plays itself though and I was dissapointed in the magic spell graphics and blue magic spells were lame. I can overlook the lack of the world map but the mini quests were disappointing and so was the weapons and armour system but it was ok. oh yeah, lamest airship and cid ever.
7, 9 and tactics are still the best though.
god do I love final fantasies

Edea took the words right out of my mouth
She said absolutely everything I was going to say on this...
and popysprite... don't let what other people say about the series put you off any of the games - I mean, the way FF is everyone likes different ones. Personally 8 + 10 are my absolute favourites. So you see, it can work the other way around. The best thing is to play them and judge for yourself.
And I've found that you don't really need to play any of the games before you play the later ones - they all start of with tedious tutorials either way
A friend of mine has only played 10 and he picked it up in no time...
P.S I really hate the fuck out of all this "harcore" and "old-skool" shit. So what if people don't like it or if you like it. And it's not a competition as to who likes it more and who plays it more.
Everyone can like just what the fuck they want. Just the way everyone can dislike what they want.
Games appeal to different people in different ways, just like books, or music, or any form of entertainment.
It's all subjective. I hate all this 'you're not harcore if you don't like this' shit.
It's bullcrap.
Sort it out people, if someone doesn't like something, so what? They're not saying you suck for liking it. And if they are then they're not worth the effort.
Jesus, video games fans are way worse than elitist music fans.

i still think the original Final Fantasy in its 8-bit glory is still the best. original idea as one of the first intricate RPG games (i could be wrong if others preceded it)
if you have an old NES or emulator get Deadly Towers
good game..sorry to change the subject
damn, I got burned.
I didn't really mean anything when I said hardcore, I forgot that its a loaded word these days, I don't commit to the indie, hardcore and oldskool thing or anything else in this world really. I just meant I play, think and talk about final fantasy more then is probably healthy. I just don't discriminate against games because they're new and I find something good in all of them and "oldskoolers" kinda piss me off. indie snobs piss me off too, and I'm sorry I kinda looked like one for a minute there.
Just please don't say you don't like 9 or me and my moogle tattoo will cry!

yeah, i played through it once and had no desire to ever again...Chrono Trigger, however, i've played through so many times i lost count...when i had it on Super Nintendo back in the day, i got damn near every ending and got it for PS when it was re-released and did it all again...i just didn't connect with CC like i did with CT...the sequel didn't do it justice at all...but everyone is entitled to their opinions i guess
