long story short, a guy is chained to a wall in a cave. the images he sees, and always has are not reality. they are the shadows of puppets on a wall. he is released from his bonds and exits the cave, thus seeing reality for the first time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't I just basically say that?

What does the internet have to do with the "subjective nature of consciousness?"

P.S. Not that I'm sure this is actually the meaning, but any movie that tells me that thinking too much or knowing too much is a bad thing and praises the bliss of ignorance can go fuck itself with a rusty shovel.

I took the same message from Pi and Fight Club. If you're crazy and intelligent, you can perform brain surgery on yourself.

I thought one of the main themes was the unknowable nature of the conciousness of the universe/god. He was obsessed with discovering it been when he did he couldn't possibly comprehend it because it was so alien to him and the only thing he could do was remove it. I think his contentment at the end could either be his brain damage or him accepting his place in the cosmos. I'm not really explaining this well but I do agree also with the Allegory of the cave interpretation.
