I've been asking this question to people in real life lately, and the answers are always pretty interesting. smile

Constraints:
1) Must be CURRENTLY famous. You can't say "I'd be Bob Dylan in 1969" or "I'd be Sid Vicious in 1975" or "I'd be Lars Ulrich back when Metallica was cool" or "I'd be Johannes Sebastian Bach." You get the idea.
2) This is not a "who do you look like?" thing.

If you could BE a currently-famous rock star, who would you be and why?

Tom Waits- that man has enough beautiful and sad tales of the strange and wonderful for eighteen lifetimes. I'd just like to experience that.

I'd be Zach de la Rocha, because I admire his politics.

For the pure fun factor, though, I'd like to be Fred Durst.

(yeah, neither of mine are based on musical talent or ability...) biggrin

Scott Weiland....because now he's clean.....and the ladies seem to love him. One of the last good rock-n-roll bands....

Either him or Dave Grohl....because Dave Grohl's pretty nifty as well.

Implied with the restriction of not being Dylan in '69 is the recognition that its the climb to the top that is the best part, once you're there its all about fending off leaches and blocking pot shots about being a sell-out.

So, with that being said...I woul have to be someone 'on the rise' on an Independent Label who is not only true to the past of his/her craft but CHANGING the future of their craft. This person would have to have a soul, a human side that is doing it for the love of music and the belief that what they do is more than a selfish quest for being rich and famous.

RJD2, Prefuse 73 or Eyedea.

To be real though...I like being me the best.

By far, Maynard James Keenan.

And I am completely secure in my heterosexuality in saying that that man has the most beautiful goddamn voice on the planet. That alone wins it.
