Men have crotch fever. All men, it would seem, are essentially programmed to check out women's crotches. First men look at the face, then they check out the crotch. I imagine during the journey there is a pit-stop taken at the chest too. But it's not our fault, according to science all men do it suggesting that there may be a biological explanation.

According to a study conducted by the Nielsen/Norman Group, reported in the Online Journalism Review, when women examine a photo of a person, they concentrate on the face, but when men view the same photo, they fixate on both the face and more private regions.

The study involved 255 New Yorkers subjecting them to a barrage of websites and photos. They tracked their subjects' eye motions discovering that the sexes study viewing material differently. The study also revealed that men don't just fixate on the face and crotch in pictures of the opposite sex, but also of men. When shown a picture of former baseball player George Brett the female group didn't take as much time soaking up his bulge as the male group did.

Although both men and women look at the image of George Brett when directed to find out information about his sport and position, men tend to focus on private anatomy as well as the face. For the women, the face is the only place they viewed.

Coyne adds that this difference doesn't just occur with images of people. Men tend to fixate more on areas of private anatomy on animals as well, as evidenced when users were directed to browse the American Kennel Club site.

The study was meant to help web editors and designers learn how to better incorporate pictures into their sites which will suit their audience's taste, improve the transmission of information, or increase ad sales. But researchers say the results also suggest that men's instinct in doing this is not just one of sexual attraction but a natural response designed to either analyze and size up the competition or fantasize about suitable procreation potential.

Still no word on why we stare at breasts and asses.

As a current job seeker I would be interested to see how this could used to create a more attractive resume. Also my initial impression from that image was that George Brett should take care to avoid the Predator.

i've also noticed that the women on this site have less crotch-centric favorite pics than my own, which are mostly crotchy. sorry.

Superimpose your resume over a picture of your penis. Duh.

In all seriousness they should do this survey again with gay man only and weomen to see if that could have casued these results, assumeing the group of people studied was unbiased and even between male and female but what about sexuality? was the unbiased as well?
That would be an interesting survey.

More proof for my theory that gender and sexuality are both dead. Every man is gay.

I'm partial to looking at the face, then breasts if it's a chick.

This was a very interesting article.

I've never been a big fan of the word "crotch" though, lol.
