Dogs are always saving people. Everywhere you look they're pulling you out of fires, eating your face off to wake you up from an overdose, dialing 911, driving you to the hospital, and eating your homework. The new one this week is an overachieving two year old golden labrador named Toby, who in addition to his normal training picked up the Heimlich maneuver. Toby performed his doggy adapted technique on his choking owner Debbie Parkhurst, who bit off a little more apple than she could chew.

"It was lodged pretty tight because I couldn't breathe," she said. "I tried to do the thing where you lean over a chair and give yourself the Heimlich, but it didn't work."

"The next think I know, Toby's up on his hind feet and he's got his front paws on my shoulders," she recalled. "He pushed me to the ground, and once I was on my back, he began jumping up and down on my chest."

Toby's jumping managed to uncork Mrs. Parkhurst. The dog even recognized when Parkhurst was breathing on her own and stopped jumping and began licking the lady's face. The hero has gotta kiss the girl right?

"As soon as I started breathing, he stopped and began licking my face, as if to keep me from passing out," she said.

"I, literally, have pawprint-shaped bruises on my chest," Parkhurst said. "I'm still a little hoarse, but otherwise, I'm OK.

According to Parkhurst, her doctor says that without Toby, Parkhurst would probably be dead – choking being quite fatal and all if not attended to promptly.

What's next doggy CPR?

Wow, it wasn't until I saw this article that I realized how worthless my dog is. He never saves my life, he can't drive an auto-mobile, and he doesn't even take himself for a walk... he makes me do that! What a shit-face. I'm going to make him read this article and write a 10 page report on it when he wakes up.

I don't see what the hype is about. Doesn't Toby know that the Heimlich Manoeuvre was discredited as a suitable treatment for choking years ago? Good thing she survived otherwise that pooch could have been looking down the barrell of some pretty serious medical negligence litigation.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. The dog was just probably trying to hump her and accidently saved her life. Then the woman fabricated the story to make it sound like a miracle. Psssh..

But if it is true, that's cool too. Ha.

And diamonds can apparently fuck off, because dogs seem to be woman's best friend now too.
