That sounds pretty fucked up to me.

What does? The patch? Is it any different than female birth control pills in the sense of hormones?

Just the idea of a patch that makes women want to fuck. I could see it being used in very messed up ways.

I'll have to agree with you on this one. A combonation of this and any of the date rape drugs spell disaster.

ok seriously now: it's not a mind control patch. at regular intervals each day guys get a spike of testosterone... it doesn't make you insane. at least not unmanageably so. i sincerely doubt that a hormone patch could be used to make someone act against their will.

Honestly, I see either side here. It could be a great thing, and it could also be used by people who are friggin' creepy.

But I'm willing to be that the benefits would probably outweigh the negative effects, after thinking about it.

true, anything even remotely related to sex (or cleaning your garage) is going to be used by creeps towards their nefarious ends.

i just don't think a testosterone patch has the capability to achieve those ends. there's no incapacitation involved in a testosterone boost -- no dimming of one's faculties.

yes, cause if we go that way, than we should definitely wonder why alcohol is still on the market, and uncontrolled. I mean, you can manipulate someone far more easily if that person's drunk, or took some ecstasy, speed, even pot, while we're at it. Anything can be used for the wrong reason.

As for the regulations, if the FDA is frightened by the increased possibility of heart attacks, than why didn't they decline Viagra? I mean, don't tell me men don't have some risks of high-pressure if they take it. Cause honestly, this could be a really great thing for women, I'm just thinking of relationship problems that could be so easily solved...

Well if the girls already have a strong libido and you get a shot of testosterone in the right setting...

I can bear witness to the fact that bodily needs can cause very irrational decisions.

Is this going to be like when they came up with synthetic estrogen and thought it would be a good idea to use it for everything. (giving it to women to create "stronger babies" when in fact it just led to higher instances of cancer in the child assuming that the woman didn't miscarry).

Putting hormones into your body when they aren't meant to be there usually isn't a good idea. (just my opinion)

Would I try it, maybe.
Would I want them to do more long term studies as well as studies relating to offspring, yes.

I'm still having trouble seeing how that is. I mean, if you're horny, you just don't hump random people on the street. I can see it making someone more likely to sleep with someone they were already considering, but this hypothetical creepy guy probably isn't in that group to begin with.

Testosterone stimulates the libido in both sexes. It is the universal doin' it hormone.

Shit, you just need to come up with bottled Lemonkid and corner the market on aphrodisiac snake oil.

the pill decreases sexual urges and this patch increases them. i wonder if it will be prescribed to those women who tell their doctors about their lack of sex drive after taking the pill

This argument is fine, but there are several case studies that go against it. Birth control pills use hormones to make your body think you're pregnant. Not normal, but perfectly within range of normal hormone levels. Used by millions. If this patch only raises your T level to something well within normal, it's probably not hurting much. I wouldn't overdo it, but it wouldn't surprise me if a woman's T level cycled monthly and changed slowly over her life. As long as this patch isn't changing things markedly I can't see how it's much different than the pill in concept.

Or for women on certain anti-depressants. I dated a girl who was on Celexa and Lexapro (not at the same time) and both of those seemed to kill her sex drive. Once she got off the Lexapro it was like....."Hey, if you stay in the shower with that massager much longer, we'll be out of hot water..." (kidding)
