Ladies growing older who find their sex drive leaking out a hole in an otherwise impressively hot vessel should know that scientists have earned their keep yet again and invented a patch for just such an emergency situation.

A hormone patch that makes women think about sex and want it more often goes on sale this week. The female equivalent of Viagra is placed on the stomach or buttock and releases the male hormone testosterone into the bloodstream, increasing desire.

This tiny, sticky miracle is called Intrinsa and is being referred to as the female equivalent to Viagra. The drug was rejected by the FDA two years ago, but the medication has just been given the greenlight in the UK and parts of Europe this week by doctor's prescription only. While this may seem like welcome news to men everywhere, women can rest assured that not only with the patch make them want to put out more, but make them feel great about it too.

Sex expert Karen Krizanovich said: "If this drug works the way they say it does and makes women feel sexier, it is going to be a really big deal and could be worth trillions to the makers."

Men and women in the US can rest assured that it will only take a really, really long time before this drug is approved here. If only because liquor and beer sales will plummet. Hopefully, if this drug continues to be denied by the FDA, it's for sound arguments grounded in scientific debate, and not because men are terrified amping women's libido will immediately precipitate an alarming rise in cheating.

A pet peeve of mine: Calling a libido intensifier viagra is off. Viagra doesn't cause desire, just improves erectile response when desire is present.

Well I'm glad there is finally a legitimate place for women to go who have problems with libido. Women have had to rely on herbal suppliments not approved or even investigated by the FDA for far too long. Not to say they don't work, we sell one at my shop that is seriously called "the sex patch" which I have tried and it does make you horny but who knows what is in it.
Sad thing is, I'm pretty damn sure that once this patch is accepted by the FDA it will not be covered by health insurance, so women are still screwed. whatever puke

The GQ story has been bumped off the page you linked to, the aboutintrinsa.com site is sketchy and without any real credentials, and the intrinsa.com site is as reliable as anything else the pharmaceutical industry will tell the public.

The Post story is confusing- is this a limited duration/one-shot deal, like a patch analog to Viagra, or intended for long-term wear? If it's the former, the FDA's objections about long-term use of estrogen leading to increased risk for heart disease and other stuff doesn't make much sense.

Dead on right. How much miscellaneous tinkering can the body take? What about interaction with the Estrogens in BC pills? Or was that Progesterones? Or Both? Will Testosterone promote beards and mustaches?

HEY!!! Maybe it'll even help you lose weight!

More libido means more cheating? I think that was meant as a sarcastic comment. But, honestly any girl I've known with a strong libido is considered a "slut." So, maybe libido and cheating do correlate?

I mean yeah, I know lots of guys who cheat. But I know WAY more girls who cheat. I think it mostly has to do with the fact that women have control of sex. Unless they are raped they get to say whether or not it happens.

Anyway, girls, if you want more testosterone you should just get a sex change smile but honestly, being a boy is no fun haha.

Libido and having sex correlate. Cheating correlates to not being able to tell your partners about each other.

What does? The patch? Is it any different than female birth control pills in the sense of hormones?

Just the idea of a patch that makes women want to fuck. I could see it being used in very messed up ways.

I'm with you. If my libido goes south... we'll just sleep next to each other. I'm tired of all the medications available.

Good for the old ladies who want it, but I'm not jumping on this band wagon.

I'll have to agree with you on this one. A combonation of this and any of the date rape drugs spell disaster.

Libido has nothing to do with having control. Its not the end all be all. I mean, men are supposed to have large libidos but men aren't all fucking machines who will fuck anything with a hole and a heartbeat, right?

Hmmmm, I'm thinking you just know a lot of sluts.

dan savage has actually gone off on some pretty epic / hilarious / pointed rants about that on his podcast.

getting onto that subject would be serious topic creep though. i guess just check out the Savage Love podcast (episode 11 i think?) if you're interested in hearing someone vehemently disagree with you on the topic of different sex drives.
