I need to live at least 40 more years. I've ingested tons of poison in all my years of wreckless revelry and feel like its catching up with me. I'm going to start a cleanse to flush the toxins from my system and was curious if anyone here has experience with this kind of thing. If you have any suggestions as to a healthy and effective way to detox, I'd like to hear them. Thanks

Don't do anything. Your body will be overjoyed at the lack of crap your'e putting into it and take steps to clean itself out. Just eat, drink and live healthy from now on.

The best detoxification treatment is a healthy diet of meditation and compassionate action toward other beings.

Somehow I think the sum total of secondhand medical knowledge on the SG is Lifestyle boards isn't half worth an examination by a good doctor.

Multivitamins can help with metabolizing things out of your system

That's assuming that you're to lazy to just eat well...

Detoxification is a scam....and Quackwatch.com is your friend.

It can be terrifying to believe that one's body is being poisoned by toxins from within. But if this were true, the human race would not have survived, says Vincent F. Cordaro, M.D., an FDA medical officer. "A person who retained wastes and toxins would be very ill and could die if not treated. The whole concept is irrational and unscientific."

that's kind of missing the point of detox. of course your body can get rid of toxins and level itself off over time -- the idea is to ditch them faster and in a way that's less work/stress for your body.

it seems to me that subsisting on water, lemons and hot sauce for two weeks is pretty stressful on the body.

No...I belive that you're missing the point. If these "toxins" were that harmful to the body...our life spans would be shortening...instead of getting longer.

The original poster is drawing these conclusions based on the fact that he feels like his past partying is "catching up" with him. He's creeping up on 30. I know from experience that, at 31....I cannot party like I did when I was 21.

It has more to do with age & maturity than it does with "toxins".

Yeah, that's the idea. But the idea is nonsense. See, you've got this organ in your body called a liver. Its job is to detoxify your body. If there's stuff in your body that your liver can't handle in relatively quickly, you've got bigger problems than pseudo-scientific holistic medicine can deal with.

Word. Meat does not hang out in your bowels for seven years or whatever it is people like to say. If it did, you would die.

Funny you should say that. My hubby said the same thing other night when I mentioned about buying organic stuff.

I buy organics when I can, simply because I find that they usually taste better.

They havel detox teas that work wonderfully, going on a cleanse fast is another way and yes take lots of vitamins and exercise, get good sleep, and bikram yoga can be amazing for cleansing and detoxing.

If you (since you were not clear) detoxing off of more dangerous substances, then I might suggest other things such as hospitalization or rehab.

Recently a UK TV program called "The Truth about food" featured detoxing. They compared a group doing and one not doing detox. There was no difference between the two groups, which showed that detoxing is a scam.

The best thing you can do for your body is to eat from healthy foods and to exercise.

And with TV writers and executives universally acknowledged as always being objective, thorough, scientific, and virtuous, who could doubt their findings?
