I don't think I understand exactly why Cheadle bought the rights to Davis's catalogue. Is that a licensing thing?
Reading between the lines, I think he got the film licensing rights for the catalog. The Davis estate has no real interest in selling the rights to the actual catalog to anybody- his stuff will be repackaged and released with alternate takes, outtakes, etc. until the next millennium.

That's what a figured, but it wasn't really clear from the wording. I didn't think Cheadle had the coin to buy out the estate's rights.
