Personally, because of my health, I shouldn't consume either; however, I think that I could live without alcohol pretty effectively. I see all of the negative effects of alcohol on society and it makes me less likely to drink actually. Drinking alcohol can be a costly habit, too.

Personally, I find the caffeine habit harder to shake than drinking alcohol or even smoking. I have successfully gone with caffeine for months though. But would you really want to give up chocolate now? Really?!? smile

I'd give up coffee without a seconds hesitation. But then I'd give up alcohol too. Neither one would be hard in the slightest.

It strikes me as rather sad that this even comes up as a possible dilemma.

Somewhat on topic... has anyone ever had a good coffee stout? I've tried one or two, but they were pretty forgettable.

It's a porter, not a stout, but I hear the
Pipeline from Kona Brewing in Hawaii is great.

It'd be a hard choice, but I'd have to give up the coffee... you could always replace it with a bit of speed or pro-plus, but nothing can take the place of alchohol...

Have you not tried ether then?

I'd have to give up booze. My caffeine addiction these days runs my life. Booze not so much.

The fact that we don't have to make these impossible decisions is a good reason to be alive.

Oh, and I'll give up the booze before I give up the coffee and Pepsi, thank you very much.

Really easy decision. I've tried alcohol roughly three times, in very small doses and it was utterly repulsively vile every time. So I'm never going to drink it anyway, thus nothing to give up.

Hell, I don't have any *real* objection to giving up caffeine, either. I have it maybe once a week. I just don't feel like going to any particular lengths to avoid it when I'm selecting soda to drink. (Fountain soda, especially...if it's not caffeinated it's probably Sprite or 7-Up, neither of which I like.)

I'm keeping coffee, what do you expect?

Booze is cool, it's nice sometimes, but not always. Day-to-day, give me my bowl of latté to keep me happy! love

I gave up both for nine months, but only craved coffee.

Booze would be gone.

That is a terrible quandary and I am proud to live in a land of freedom where such decisions do not exist.

Honestly, the only thing making it hard for me is the soul-crushing migraines I get that can only be cured with prescription-strength doses of caffeine and acetaminophen.
