All of you people talking about ala carte channels need to understand that it is the government who requires the cable systems to carry the majority of the channels that nobody wants.

$150 is "like one dinner out"? Not anywhere I've lived so far, not for a normal meal out.
I'm not sure where you live, but after a 20% tip and 8% tax, that only leaves a check of like $115. If two people each get two drinks for, say $7 or $8, now you're down to like $85 for food total, or just over 40 bucks a head. That's hardly an extravagant meal, especially in L.A.
CitySearch lists restaurants with meals over $40 in the most expensive category. Even in LA, that's extravagant.
I could care less what some Web site (probably written by someone from Portland) says. In L.A. forty bucks doesn't go too far at a decent restaurant. I find it hilarious that someone from the backwoods would even attempt to argue such stupid point that they know nothing about.
And anyone who aregues that Portland is the "backwoods" and $150 a month isn't much money is in dire need of gaining some perspective - that's over 40% of my monthly rent. I wouldn't pay that for TV stations if it came with a free blowjob.

I've eaten at some damn fine restaurants in LA and paid no more than $50 total for two people.

I totally agree that 150 is the price of eating out at a fairly nice restaurant, but it's no small sum of money. )
Although I priced out FIOS, and it's indeed cheaper than dealing with the cable company, it would cost me about 110 a month for cable and TV (with 3 standard def boxes, and one HD-DVR), about the same as basic cable (digital cable costs about 30 dollars more a month) and cable internet. And if you have a couple of roomates, it becomes very manageable (espescially since the high upload speed of FIOS allows much better sharing of a connection).
Also, you can get phone/cable/tv on one bill, which is super nice

I'm from Miami, I moved to Portland 8 months ago. I've also eaten at nice restaurants in New York, San Francisco, and Vancouver and never paid that much. But I bet those are all in "the backwoods" too.

Pshht. Whatever. They probably still wipe their ass with toilet paper instead of dollar bills in "Atlanta" too don't they?
