In most animals swollen breasts mean that the female is ready to mate, sort of a sign, I believe that humans are the only species that has constantly swollen breasts. Just a vestige of our animal pasts.

I don't recall where, but I remember reading that one idea for why women have breasts is that the pre-hominid male chose a mate by looking at the females ass, like baboons bright red asses. As man became erect the ass was no longer at eye level, or close to eye level, but the breasts were, thus the females with larger breasts mated more. Thus breasts have no real evolutionary advantage, but they had no disadvantage either.

Truly I don't care why they're there, I'm just glad that they are.
