Maybe y'all read Dooce, and maybe you don't. You should, because she's awesome. Case in point: her recent comments on Britney Spears. Hadn't thought about it, but she's probably right: Britney just had a second kid and is in the middle of a divorce; she probably is suffering from Post-Partum Depression, and all the godawful tabloid coverage probably isn't helping a lot. Poor kid.

Bitch_PhD really kinda likes Britney, and thinks people that are mean to young mamas suck.

This video is really moving. It's nice to see someone in the media actually pulling for her instead of taking advantage of her at this time.

I do feel sorry for her, but thats the caveat of being a celebrity. Not to be harsh but, If you dont want or atleast expect to be in the spotlight, good times and bad, you shouldnt be a pop star.

X 8 billion

every ounce of negative attention she gets right now will only drive her deeper into a bad situation

I agree and i disagree. The world needs entertainment. People like Britney fill that need for some people. However. they do not need to know the exact time, down to the minute, of her last bowel movement. Somehow the media decided that the general public needed to know stuff like that, and then people began following it.....like flies on shit. In my opinion, being a star doesn't necessarily mean you need to spend your free time dodging the media.

Props to Craig Ferguson

Well, while I'm not too fond of aspects of AA's method, it took massive cajones for Ferguson to do that.

Here, you want to see something creepy?

That was filmed in 1988. The man looks so much better now, it's unreal. He knows whereof he speaks.

Nice vid, min. Always good to see not everyone in front of a TV camera is a complete smeghead.

As for Britney, I was a fan for about as long as she had the schoolgirl dress on in the first(?) video. When all this recent stuff started, I couldn't help but wonder why it was on the 'front page' of the Sky News website instead of tucked away in the celeb section. Frankly I find it as offensive as the Big Brother stuff when they make such a big deal out of it.

However big a smeghead she is, she doesn't deserve so much negative crap while she's going something that could make or break... not her career, but her life.

It is the same with Miss Lohan as well - The Guardian put up a very interesting column in November about the needless focus on the possibility she could be self harming.

For celebrities going through a tough time, the sheer amount of information available to us and wanted by us in this age makes it difficult to know when to stop.

I agree...however, that's a two-way street. If she went back home...and took care of herself the way she should...instead of galavanting around with the party crowd...I have full confidence that soon after, people would stop paying attention to her and leave her alone.

I'm sorry if that's too insensitive...but you can't make a spectacle of yourself and then shout "STOP LOOKING AT ME"...and expect people to take you seriously.

She can have her privacy back....at the price of her fame. It's just up to her to do it.

Or her and her publicist did. There are - as far as I can tell - several different types of fame. There are people a lot more famous than her who don't get followed and hounded like that. It's unfortunate that people can't turn off the fame when it becomes too much, but there are plenty of people who manage to provide entertainment to the masses without having every haircut televised.

This is really easy to say for us, but if she's suffering from the illness that Mr. Ferguson suggests, she's not exactly in the best of places for self-control and reflection.

If that is indeed the case, hopefully soon she'll hit the rock bottom that sends a lot of addicts to the front of the phone book. Until then, I'll be compassionate for a pretty young girl who seems to have some psychological issues to sort out and nobody real to help her with them.

It kind of goes back to the Anna Nicole Smith bit. Instead of talking about serious stuff, let's give 'em sensational stuff. Stir the pot. Get people discussing whether she was a glorified stripper or a struggling mother with a sad story, then someone realizes it works.

So we need someone else to feed to the wolves, and God Himself provides the lamb.
