Sometimes I wonder if CNN secretly has writers for The Onion coming up with these headlines but that is an actual headline and quite seriously, a crazed gunman opened fire at the Circo del Sol de Cali in Columbia, killing one clown instantly and leaving another to later perish. Read here to believe and police say oh yes, "We are investigating the motive."

I'm forcing myself to feel bad about this. I mean, obviously it's terrible; I'm sure it was someone's husband and someone's brother...

...but man, I really hate clowns.

and I notice that whoever wrote the article only referred to them as clowns, never as men or women or people at all. weird!

I know! I hope they do a follow up.

I told 2 of my relatives about this tonight. One laughed over the headline & my dad just deadpanned "Maybe the person didn't like clowns."

As much as people like to hate on clowns, this story really brought me down. Clowns basically throw out their dignity in order to try to bring some amusement to people's lives, and get no respect for it. This is a senseless tragedy and you know that everyone involved in it cracked a smile at some point. It's disrespectful. frown

And I can't even fucking type this up without laughing and it's pissing me off. mad

Nope. I tried. It's just impossible to read the headline and not have difficulty suppressing chuckles.

Maybe the gunman didn't like the balloon animals? The face wasn't funny enough? As it's described in the CNN story it was either random or someone who worked for the show itself. Would be interesting to know a motive behind that.

I'm refraining from the Cannibals eating the Clown joke...but damnit!!

Well, this is as safe a place as any to confess to having taken a mime class when I was in sixth grade. But, people really didn't yet hate mimes back then, and there actually was a fairly successful mime theater (where it was held) when I was a kid.

Usually would only laugh or be pleased about a mime getting killed.

Well there's part of your crime scene.

A more extensive story thanks to the BBC.

It gets more surreal:

"Last year, a prominent circus clown, known as Pepe, was also shot dead by a unknown assailant in Cucuta. "

And further, as I try not to hideously laugh again examine Rotten's thoughtful message board.
