I'm lost
November 2006

FEB 14, 2007 03:10 PM

I'm in college at a university and the fraternity thing sounded like a really cool idea to me, but now I'm starting to have sexond thoughts. Does someone have input for me about this? Anyone is welcome to respond...

I thought I wanted to go to lots of parties but now I'm beginning to think maybe I should focus a little bit more on learning new tricks!

WHAT SAY YOU ARRR!!!

Based on the fact that you are asking an audience of strangers from a quasie-porn site to make a decision for you I'm going to answer YES! You should definitely join a fraternity.

Seriously, though. Where do you go to school? Because if it's someplace where there's nothing else to do but go to frat parties, I'd consider joining a fraternity (Ok, I personally wouldn't, but I could see why many people would.) If it's someplace cool with a good social scene outside of that, then I wouldn't.

That's not necessarily true. By your logic, Suicide Girls is the same thing.

Whereas that could be true, it's different for different people. I was in a fraternity. I was very, very anti-greek upon arriving to my university. I ended up at a lot of Frat parties the first few weeks of school mostly due to the lure of free beer and the hopes of getting laid. But I made some friends and ended up rushing. I made some very good friends who I still keep in touch with more than ten years later.

I can't tell you what school I am at for the privacy of the school but I will tell you this. I just wanted to participate but now that I've been to a few of the meetings I see that it's not just a club it's a commitment and I don't know if I'm ready to commit to anything more than just keeping my own ass line. Thanks for the words of advice everyone I do appreciate them, and lil_tuffy I'm not a complete stranger to the site I was a member here for a month a while back... I was there for the price is right day at the grove where they didn't tell us that the parking was going to be like $18 and I had to beg the attendant to let me go with just $12. That was so cool... Anyway. Thanks everyone. I <3 U SG!

Fraternity = paying to have parties.

Booze and venues aren't free.

Also nothing I love more then gross generalizations.

But back to the question. You shouldn't be asking if you should or shouldn't join a fraternity. What you should be asking is if you should rush and I would answer yes.

All Fraternities are different. You need to check them all out and see if you mesh with any of of them. Unlike the general stereotype all fraternities aren't made up off assholes and they don't all want tie your balls to a cinder block. I am in a fraternity and it was one of the best things about college. If I were you I would rush and look for a fraternity that is made up of people you would be friends with even if they weren't in the organization.

You can join the frat, but if I ever hear you use the line "Don't call it a frat. You wouldn't call your countrya cunt, would you?" I will punch you in your goddamned mouth.

Well generally is considered disrespectful to abbreviate fraternity. Mainly because of the negative connotations associated to the word frat. I prefer if people didn't call it a frat but it isn't like I loose sleep over it.

Well your entitled to your opinion. I was just trying to explain why people in fraternities don't like to use the word frat.

Yeah, I'm a Pike and I could give a fuck less what they call it.

Basically, if the house if full of douchebags, don't join. If you can't afford it, don't join.

But, if you can afford it, and the other members are cool, then by all means, go for it. Not only do you get free admission to all of the greek parties (In most cases, but it's usually depending on the Inter-fraternal relations at your school.) but you have the opportunity to make some good connections as well.

In some cases, it could help you get a job too.

Conversely, I strongly suggest against any girl joining a Sorority. It will be the biggest mistake of your life.

The Greek system is an absolutely foreign concept to me. We had none at my college. Personally, I liked it that way.

Of course, we had tons of free beer all the time, so maybe that eliminated part of the need for frats anyway. tongue

Ding ding ding, we have a winner.

I even helped start a branch of a fraternity on my campus under the false assumption that they didn't have to be complete bullshit, but quickly learned that they breed conformity and stupidity.
