I think John Mayer MIGHT still have a career if he were ugly. He is talented, he just makes music that teeny bopper and prep girls wet themselves over. The amount of stupid girls I know that LOVE him is amazing. People just wouldn't want to see his videos.

I agree that he's talented, and honestly my friends and I used to make fun of Your Body is a Wonderland, just like everyone else, but his music has matured and his work with the John Mayer Trio is guitar genius. If you can't appreciate that then your way too jaded.

(I wasn't inferring that Alkali was jaded just the others she was responding to in the first place).

You see where I'm going with this.

Before you get indignant on one side or the other, ask yourself why you even care.

Because "successful relationships" and college degrees are directly proportional to someone's value as a human being. That's some killer logic there, champ. How many college degrees do you have between the three of you?

Whatever small amount of cool points Mayer had, he lost when he started dating Jessica Simpson. He's only slightly above Seacrest in that regard.

He's one person. I think. I don't have my college degree yet, so it's hard for me to be sure.

But yeah, I would have to guess that the average "degreed" individual adds more value to the world than the average non-degreed individual. That's not to say that there aren't exceptions, or that degrees turn people into deities of some sort; it's just to say that there is a reason society values them wink

It's not even that I really disagree with the notion of a degree meaning something (even if it is overblown value versus the lack of specialized knowledge acquired). Reprobate's argumentative presentation was like wheeling in an inverted pyramid of jenga blocks and handing several people a sledgehammer. Honestly, how the fuck does one quantify "successful relationships?"

I'm not sure, but I think marrying someone and then divorcing them a few years later disqualifies your relationship from counting as "successful".

Once you get that degree be sure to let us know how the hell these 3 are worse off than the large majority of the degree holding world if money=value.

He totally linked Rainbow Quest. That's so lame. We should make this a Pete Seeger thread now.

Yeah. Can't say I give a hoot about Mayer, one way or the other. Mainly I just clicked this thread hoping to see Seacrest getting beaned. His name is even stupid...it's like a rejected toothpaste flavor. Seacrest.

I don't want to piss off the only other banjo player on this site, but I'm not sure I follow you. How is the fact that Mississippi John Hurt is awesome related to the fact that Pete Seeger is old? And how is that lame? And what does that have to do with the fact that this Mayer fellah, who's dating Jessica Simpson, isn't playing the blues?

And for good measure:

Breaking it down: The clip of MJH was from a public access show called Rainbow Quest which Seeger hosted. They're both awesome. Mayer and Simpson. however, are not. It's, like, mathematical...man.

I've got to stop posting on the boards. It makes me feel like I'm a poor boy long way from home.

Alright, enough derailing. You folks can lapse back into the original thread -- yam'er john (oh, an anagram pun) about John Mayer and like ilk.

If you read the thread on youtube, someone's best guess is that he said isshoni irarete saikou desu. It sounds like he said isshoni idarete saigo desu, which is utter crap and nonsense, (idarete is not a word) but also how people are getting the wrong translation (saigo means end).

Jessika wa totemo suteki na josei de isshoni irarete saikou desu.

I think the only reason I'm replying to this is because it's almost 3am and I don't know any better, but the first half of the sentence is grammatically correct; it's not the particle "de" but the "-te" form of desu. Instead of saying "Jessica wa totemo suteki na josei desu. Issho ni irarete saigo desu", he combined the two sentences. It's like using a comma in English.

And yes, I do think he said "saigo" ("end"; "last"), since the subtitles show that he's trying to tell Seacrest he's the "last to know". "Irarete" is definitely not correct though, if he's trying to say, "if we're together" it would be "itara" (if that's even the correct way to say the phrase, saying "issho ni itara" is a pretty literal translation from English and I'm not quite sure if the same wording would be used), from the verb "iru" ("are"). "Irarete" is like some sort of honorific or passive -te form, which doesn't make sense.

That's it, I need to go to bed.
