Ok I need to vent... don't get me wrong I'm not racist or anything of the sort but I've discovered my new pet-peeve. I don't know about anywhere else but I see it everyday here in NYC, I hate the fact that people (that are not into rock music in general) sport the "rockablily" look just because "it looks cool" while they are walking down the street listening to their 50cent on their iPod, like what the fuck, I like that style, it's my style. Fuck off with the studed belts and the dirty converse, and the chians dangling down from your pants when you hate the music it represents; talk about two-faced people whatever

Person- "Yo bro why do you have a lip ring that looks weird son"

Me- "Stop biting off my rocker style, you dumb fuck" mad

don't take this too harshly...but people who care how other people dress....are morons.

There's no such thing as a poser. It's an invention of those who (incorrectly) believe that their taste in music & clothes defines them as a person.

It's not so much about what they are wearing but the fact that they think rock, punk, or metal is "weird people music" and for phycos but they see a Ramones shirt and they buy it, not to represent the band but just because it has a skull on it (for example) and it goes great with their new Jordans. When you ask them, "oh so you like the Ramones too? Nice"... "No I hate that rock music shit I just like the shirt" I mean come on thats just stupid

Again...I sincerely ask..."So what?"

What's stupid about buying something purely for aesthetic reasons? How does that hurt you? Why in God's name would you care about somebody's t-shirt? Should you have to answer a series of trivia questions to see if you're qualified to buy a Ramones t-shirt?

It's just clothing. It's just music.

it may be stupid, but I'm pretty sure everyone on earth outside of maybe the dalai lama makes assumptions about strangers based on what they look like. if you see a guy in blue mohawk and chains and tattoos up his neck, and you tell yourself "he's probably an accountant," you are forcing it. every subculture has a philosophy and a uniform, so I don't think assumptions are unreasonable.

so if you care about a certain subculture, maybe you care about the misappropriation of its uniform.

but, little_mayhem, if your uniform has been adopted by the adherents of some other philosophy and artistic bent to the point that, upon seeing someone dressed in it, you assume you know what they are listening to and what they think, you should probably consider that maybe they've already won. there's a chance that your style no longer means what it once did. there's a chance that you are wrong, and they are right.

How is it "your" style? You sure as shit didn't invent it. You've co-opted someone else's style to use as your own. Why can't other people do the same?

I'm one of those that dress according to what music they are into... in turn music reflects my style and the way I carry myself, just like rappers have pants down to there knees, get it? You wont see "lil john" sporting a mohawk to maintain his rapper image right?

Let me turn the tables to make this a bit more understandable, my issue is the same as how hip-hop people hate it when a suburban white kid is listening to rap music thinking that he's a "gangster" and trying to dress the part... they hate that right? They even nick-name these kids "whiggers" to make fun of them right? That's my issue but the other way around.

By the way I didn't make up my style, I adopted it from people that's into my scene and attitude wink

Just because other people do it doesn't mean it makes sense.

Nope not even, this is just the least of my "pet-peeve's" compared to other things I frankly do not give a shit about this.

By the way, what some of you people are not getting is the fact that it's not about what someone is wearing per-say. It's about people being two-faced about a culture whatever

...and what YOU aren't getting is that grownups with responsibilites have better things to worry about. We have to worry about paying bills & eating food. Why somebody is wearing a t-shirt....that's a little further down on the list of concerns.

Also...you shouldn't use words or phrases that you don't understand or cannot spell correctly. "per-say" is nonsense. Per se is Latin for "by itself"

"Dressing according to what music you're into" is not "a culture."

BTW, Converse, studded belts and Chains have been around long enough that they don't represent ANY form of music. They're just another fashion choice.

Also, this:

don't get me wrong I'm not racist or anything of the sort

Leads me to think that you're pretty much assuming that black people who dress like this couldn't possibly be into rock music. How do you know?

Chuck Taylors are basketball shoes ultimately manufactured by Nike. That's, like, the least punk rock thing ever.

Unexpectedly, its even further down than caring why someone cares that someone else is wearing a t-shirt.

I'm so confused. You-----like Korn. And don't seem to dress rockabilly at all according to your pics. So what's the problem exactly? New Yorkers wearing studded belts and listening to 50 Cent is annoying to you? This thread is annoying to me! That's my pet peeve. This thread.
