Or here's another way to put it.
Woman who never did anything for anybody but herself dies = 10 pages of comments
Woman who devoted her life to fighting for justice dies = 2 pages of comments
Conclusion?
Conclusion: it's a lot easier to make assinine comments than insightful ones. Thus, more idiots get to comment. Ergo longer threads. I understand the notion but it boils down pretty logically.
The most complicated subjects are often responded to very infrequently (aside from groups for obvious reasons) while the 'would you have sex with the person above you thread' has reached what? 1000+ pages.
It should be noted that half of the comments in this thread are either people complaining about how much attention she's getting or other people flaming the assholes for being assholes.
Duly noted. But nonetheless, ANS has garnered many more "RIP"s than Molly Ivins. That's a sad reflection on the culture/priorities/values of the American Sheeple.

I was gonna go back and edited it to say: thought vs no-thought required, but meh...
No, I got you. I just felt it warranted mentioning.
She always reminded me a little bit of Anita Ekberg in La Dolce Vita...
And I loved watching her show back in the day when she seemed happy...This is all so sad. All of it...Death, loss, babies with no families, human nature, war, this thread...But alas, I digress. R.I.P. Anna.

I saw the thread about Molly Ivins' death the day it was posted, and it definitely made me sad, but we're talking apples and oranges here--Ivins was older, accomplished, and losing a long battle with cancer. It may not have been exactly shocking that ANS died to some, but her death was sudden and therefore somewhat shocking--at least to me--especially in light of all the other dramas/weirdness/tragedy surrounding it. I can't say the same about Ivins, but just because I chose not to comment on Ivins' death doesn't mean my "culture/priorites/values" are screwed up or that one loss is more profound than the other...

Sheeple!
Your outside-the-box wit is putting poor pop-culture-clone consumer-robot me to shame, man.
This sanctimonious crap is what I think is sad here, if we're going to be talking about people's responses--either to Molly Ivins' death or to Anna Nicole Smith's, or to anyone else's death for that matter.

I'm still waiting for the "THEN...." your "IF" left me oh so desirous of some insightful conclusion..........

i didn't really know all that much about her to be honest, but it seems as though she led a pretty tragic life. i hope that she finds peace wherever she's gone to, but more than anything, my thoughts are with her little girl.

hmmm...you've commented at least twice in THIS thread, and only once in the other. By your brilliant logic, you care twice as much about Anna Nicole than Molly Ivins. What a horrible person you are!
I mean are people really so dumb that they don't understand the difference between a semi-famous writer dying after a long battle with breast cancer and a hugely famous person dropping dead suddenly right after her son did the same, right in the middle of a scandalous paternity suit? I mean, I know it feels great to be on your high horse and pretend like you don't understand why it's such a big deal...but the fact that some of us find the story interesting doesn't really make us dumber. And it doesn't make anyone a sheep for following the story. It's pretty fucking weird.
Again I say, well said.
And I agree with Sid's comment she made ont he last page.

I'll admit to a bit of sanctimonious indignation, but they started it with the sickening histrionics.
For growing up dirt poor in rural Tx, Anna milked what little (or big) she had and reached heights most of us never will. Clearly a troubled soul, and I'm really saddened to learn of her passing.
I honestly just heard about this today!
I was shocked to hear that she had passed. I read everyone's comments and don't have much to say except of what I believe about death.
Death is the great leveler. It doesn't matter who you are or how important you were while you were alive. It doesn't matter if you are young, old, famous, or a regular joe. Death comes for everyone. Anna isn't more important than anyone else who dies. She is just like everyone else. I feel compassion for her family and friends who actually knew and loved her. I feel this same compassion for the men and women who loose their lives everyday in Iraq fighting this pointless war. I feel the compassion for the Iraqi people who are innocent bystanders who die because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I think that those of you who showed nothing but hatred and wrote nasty comments about this particular human being have underlineing fears of death. It's so easy to make light of death when you are not comfortable with it.

That's quite the logical leap of faith. At the very least, it's pure resentment. It's pretty easy to resent someone who made a living out of being a pair of tits that looks vaguely like Marilyn Monroe.
The most boring idiot on Earth died?! I would forget about this story in two seconds if people didn't keep bringing it up?! Yes, and yes. What was I talking about?

You'd forget about it in two seconds, but it was on your mind enough to bump a thread that was inactive for over a day?
