Last book I read was Arshia Sattar's translation of "The Ramayana" (I'm a Hindu scripture addict). It's the third translation of the Ramayana I've read and (I think) the best. Really lovely. You have to be into spiritual epics to get into it, I think.

Before that I read Bernard Malamud's "The Fixer", which is a fine book about anti-semitism, persecution. Topical. Very strong.

The Analects - Confucius. It's really not as confusing or metaphorical as people often state, and you'll probably spot at least one or two points in it that you already knew, but didn't know you knew, if that makes any sense.

ummm, how about something less spiritual, and a little more worldly in orientation? A few weeks ago I read 'The Wisdom of Crowds' by James Surowiecki. It discusses the ability of people, in groups, to make intelligent and wise decisions. The book ranges over a wide range of areas, from NASA to Wall Street, from the 19th century to the 21st. It is well written and informative. Well worth a read.

Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynne Truss

It discusses the death of proper puncutaion in the English language. Despite what you may be thinking...no, it's NOT boring...it's a very good read.
