With Factory Girl, the new movie based on Edie Sedgwick's life, coming out soon I figured it was time to get the real deal on what Edie was like by talking to someone who actually knew and worked with her. I got a chance to speak with David Weisman who not only directed Edie in her last film but also recorded tons of audio of Edie just talking. He has included much of those recordings in his new book Edie: Girl on Fire.

It's a shame that biopics distort things to make a better story, and unfortunately the audience will sometimes take the script as gospel. For me though, biopics make me want to find out the truth so I go read about them from respectable sources after... I did it with Johnny Cash after Walk the Line, and I will definately read more about Edie after seeing Factory Girl because all I really know is what I've read about her in some of the Dylan books I've looked at... Oh, and NO ONE deserves to be compared to Paris Hilton.

I saw the movie because I'm a huge fan of Edie, and it really did warp some things. The big injustice though was that it just centered on the New York scene and her time with Andy. It didn't go into much detail about her youth and her stay at mental institutions, nor did it really tell much about what happened after she left New York. It's still a favorite of mine though just because there's not another movie about her, unless you count Ciao Manhattan.

The biography is amazing. The book Girl on Fire offers tons of never before seen photos and is like an oral biography. It's beautiful.

I love Edie Sedgwick. Ciao!Manhattan is a wild ride of a movie and I love the other films that I've seen Ms.Sedgwick in, but I had no interest in seeing factory girl, it seemed miscast.
