Walt Disney's unfinished collaboration with Salvador Dali will see the light of day this summer.

An unfinished film made by Walt Disney and Salvador Dali will get a summer premiere six decades after the project started. Destino, a six-minute animation shows a woman dancing through surreal scenery inspired by Dali's most iconic imagery. The film had been reconstructed from more than 100 storyboards, drawings and paintings that were created over nine months between 1945 and 1946. The film will be screened at the Tate Modern from June.

Contrary to the quotation, the film has had some limited screenings since Roy Disney commissioned the completion under the direction of Dominique Monfery – who was nominated for an Oscar in 2004 for his involvement. The story, written and animated by Dali, depicts a woman experiencing surreal transformations and tells a tale of lost love returned. The film is silent except for a Spanish song which soundtracks the 6 minutes. The work was supposedly abandoned because Walt Disney was unhappy with the initial work. I bet there was some serious ego clashing during that breakup.

Here is an excerpt from Destino:

Disney was a misogynistic racist, Dali was a lovesick genius. The thought that these two could work together for even a moment is beyond comprehension.

I can't wait to see this.
