Any health nuts who know the answer to this question? I just picked up a bottle of B-complex and even though they are vegan, they smell like freaking cuttlefish. Bleh. That means they've gone bad, yes?

Nope. A lot of your natural vitamins smell funky.

Yeah, B complex smells awful.

They are not for smelling, they are for swallowing. Smelling vitamins will not tell you if they have expired or not, just like smelling prescription medication will not tell you the date on the side of the bottle has passed.

Oh god, I have some multi-vitamins that smell AWFUL. My hand even smells after I pour them out and pop them in my mouth.

I used to take a vitamin that made me pee bright yellow, that was fun!

It's just I've had B vitamins plenty of times and they were never this gross. Maybe it's just this particular brand. *shrug*

They aren't cracked. That's the only test I know for vitamins that have gotten yucky. I just worry about EVERYTHING here because everything is transported here and not always stored correctly in the process.

Over the years of living here I've seen Beef Rice a Roni with maggots inside (why my mom ever bought Beef Rice a Roni to begin with I'll never know), wine turned to complete piss vinegar, and other assorted horrors. It's made me more cautious about ingesting things that could be spoiled than when I am on the mainland.

Food state vitamins have a higher bioavailability than engineered vitamins. Here, read:

Ooooh, I see. I think I had to take some Magnesium like that once. This chiropractor/reflexologist had me take them and I had to do this elaborate thing where I chewed them for a certain amount of time and then swallowed them with a certain amount of water.

And yeah, they were pretty nasty smelling.
