So here is the story; I got a WU grade for a class that I never registered for. Let me explain what a WU grade is; WU means that I registered for a class but never attended the class which converts into an F and looks very bad on your permanent record. Back to the story, I got that grade for a class that I never even signed up for, this fuck up by someone else caused my GPA to go from a 4.0 (A student) to a 2.0 (D student) mad not only that but they have placed me in "Academic Probation" which means that since my GPA is so low if I end up failing a class next semester then I get kicked out of the college... again, because of someone elses fuck up. I'm not going to stop bugging these people until they change that grade mad I would go all the way to President Bush but he can't help me, he was a C- student ooo aaa

Man, if I was paying for an extra class's worth of credit hours, I'd sure as hell have noticed. That's over a grand right there.

I didn't notice because I didn't bother looking at the bill, my mom paid for the entire semester... the bill wasn't important to me

This must be your first semester; otherwise, I can't imagine how one grade would tank your GPA like that. shocked (Unless you mean your semester GPA, not your cumulative.)

Raise a stink about it. If it's truly not your fault, don't let them screw you over.

But if it turns out that there's nothing you can do, take comfort: it has seemed to me that a lot of jobs only care about your cumulative GPA if anything, and a lot of grad schools care more about your test scores than your grades. That could just be from my limited experience with jobs and grad schools, but I've heard the same thing from a lot of other people.

Also, a little explicatory note attached to grad school applications can certainly help. I explained away at least three fairly bad course grades in a one-paragraph letter on my law school app.

It'll all work out. Don't worry. smile

How about your class schedule? Didn't you get one after you completed registration?

So, you showed them that, right?

Incidentally, I had a recurring nightmare in college that I completely forgot about a class until the very end of the semester, and then I had to go beg for a WP.

Even with that proof they are not "buying" it, they refuse to believe me because the error made is showing that I did register for the class when of course I never did and also every time I would show someone that proof they all ask me the samething after looking at it; "humm ok I see, well we are going to need more proof than this". It's basically my word against theirs.

I still have that dream occasionally and I've been out of college for a decade. But then, occasionally, I have a horrible sitcom dream where they discover I didn't finish high school and have to go back.

You should talk to the professor of the class to see if he could help, also you need to talk to a decision maker, not some jackass at the front desk.

If that doesn't work and you're really worried about the grade, some colleges let you re-take classes and replace the first grade with the one you get the second time aroud.

Holy SHiT! I used to have that exact same dream; I always thought I was the only one! In my case I'd remember about the class the day of the last test for the class; if I could get there in time and pass the test everything would be ok. Unfortunately, it always seems to have been a Math class (my worst subject)

Crap, I never knew other peopel had that one. I wonder what it means?

If Mom footed the bill, perhaps she should demand resolution of the issue or else file some sort of fraud suit. It's got to be a breach of contract on their part somewhere. In a year and a half when I'm footing the bill I sure as Hell won't let her get (or my bankroll - if it can be called that) get screwed.

Oh, and what Sid said - your advisor(s) should help - that's what they're there for.

Usually dropping below a 2.0 would result in a warning for the term and probation for cummulative. If your school is different you can still get it changed.

I dont know of any school that doesnt have a scholastic review board of some kind. They are the ones that decide whether or not a grade or academic status is changed.

It is usually not easy to change a grade in a class earned or otherwise but it is not impossible either. If you have a legitimate reason. My first advice is to talk to your advisor and find out exactly what the proper proticol is going to be. Most likely you will submit your case to a Review board consisting of some professors, admins and your peers. They will weigh your evidence and make a decision.

If that still doesnt work. Dont fail a class next term. It sounds like you are a good student in the classes you did sign up for so just stay focused on your work ahead. If for some odd reason they dont change it, that one Wu isnt going to prevent you from getting a job in the future or getting into grad school.

The best advice for anyone in college is to develop a personal relationship with your advisors and faculty. It will make your time spent a lot easier and more productive.

I have this exact same dream about once every two months. And mine are always a math class, too. And it's been a while since I had a math class.
