Brian Doherty, a senior editor of the libertarian magazine Reason, author of This is Burning Man, and longtime burner was recently interviewed by Newsweek about the controversy. If Law's suit is successful, outside entities will gain access to the Burning Man name. Even so, Doherty believes Burning Man will live on.
There's no reason to believe that [this will] kill the spirit of Burning Man. The experience is still going to be as real and vivid and life-affirming as it is now, no matter what anyone in the outside world is trying to do in terms of selling this video or product with the Burning Man name. I assure you these people in the desert are going to keep doing this whether or not it's called Burning Man. I personally think the outcome of the lawsuit is ultimately irrelevant.
Laughing Squid has a thorough set of links to relevant legal documents.
I'd much rather prefer all things to do with Burning Man to stay in the private ownership hands of its creators. Its already bordering on sold out, I know a lot of people who don't go anymore cause its so different from the earlier years.

Burning Man 2007... brought to you by Jostens%u2122!
John Law is a good guy and IMHO Burning Man LLC has turned into a money hungry beast convoluting the point of why Burning Man got going in the first place at Baker Beach.
I've considered going to this more than once; it always sounded interesting but, truth be told, the idea of being in a desert during the hottest time of the summer doesn't appeal to me much...I've a cold weather, forest type of guy
