The famed chainsaw carrying hero of the campy, 1981 film by Sam Raimi has been resurrected by Hinton Battle and Christopher Bond in New York City. We once again find ourselves following Ash on his quest to destroy bloodthirsty demons, all set to musical numbers, choruses and dance routines.
The show plays at New York's New World Stages and runs through February 24.
Word on the street has it that this musical tries to force a Rocky Horror-esque participation from the audience, thus defeating the purpose of the audience being willing to do so in the first place. I hear it makes the whole experience a bit disingenuine and spoils the fun.
That's pretty much what you get in his commercial for Old Spice. Not dancing and singing in the usual style, but of the ineffable Bruce variety. And a really long painting.
This show has been around for years. Several of my friends saw it in Toronto a few years back when it was still playing small clubs, and said it was fucking great. If you liked the movies, you'll love the musical. Those of you close enough to attend, enjoy. Luck bastards.
The very Idea of this makes my head hurt. Alot. You just can't do Ash without Bruce Friggin Campbell.. I still hope it kills though, Hail to the King Baby!!!
Yeah I agreed, this is either really awesome...or a terrible terrible idea..
On the point of terrible ideas...they stole mine!
Not evil dead, the musical..but rather a zombie musical...
My brother, then later me were working on a zombie straight edge hard-core musical called "True Past Dead"...except fro the writing being a bit lacking in parts...it is an amazing concept.
Also it would have a grand zombies fighting robots scene at the end...and that is going to be the best ending to a musical ever!
I have tickets for this Wednesday in the splatter zone. I'm in NJ until the 22nd from Chi-Town, and this is one of the only good things about being here.
Hasn't this been going on for a few years? I've been wanting to see this, but those jerks never did any shows HERE, I think for a brief time they had gigs outside of New York. Or maybe I'm dumb.
As a Bruce Campbell fan and a Raimi fan I find this is indeed blasphemy. They going to have a "swallow your soul" or "this is my boomstick!" song that sounds like an ABBA track?
