Summer of 2000 for me. I had to lick the noodle brick and sprinkle the beef-salt on, and wash it down with rainwater. Ah, memories. Thanks, Mr. Ando.
How many of you just ate the bricks raw when you were kids?
I still do from time to time, just to shake things up!
oh, i totally did as a kid! it was the cool thing to do in 4th/5th grade for lunch..we crumbled the noodle bricks up like chips and sprinkled the seasoning packet on and shook it up in a plastic baggy...it was good!
and on a side note...i had ramen for lunch on Saturday! good stuff.

Thank you for your countless contributions throughout the modern college era, Momofuku-san. Your gift to the world was more important than any course I've taken so far and you will be missed. Even though you are no longer with us, your love for the poor will live on through the clogged arteries of our hearts. RIP, Sir.

do you guys drink the soup part? i have friends that pour it out.
Sometimes. But like I said, usually I pour out the water before I mix in the delicious flavor packet.
sounds cool. i'll have to try that some time, with some snow peas or green beans.Mmmmmmm.......
it just dawned on me that the friends that throw the water out are asian(vietnemese to be exact), and the friends who drink the soup part are of mexican decent. could it be a cultural thing?

I think it was last year that an undergrad at UChicago did her BA project on ramen noodles. A really interesting, brief article on global capitalism via ramen follows for anyone interested:
i went to mexico city in '05 to watch the mexico vs usa world cup qualifer match & there were vendors going down the aisles selling the ramen cup w/ a chili packet. i can only imagine that happening here.
Coronas & Ramen. Mmmmmm...... now that's eatin'
