I'm not sure if it's the best ever, but several of last season's episodes of The Wire would be near the top of my list. As would a couple episodes of the Prisoner and the Twilight Zone.

Debates usually don't rank as the best hour of TV I've ever seen.

I'm not sure, but the last episodes of either Quantum Leap, St. Elsehwere or M.A.S.H. would be up there.

That was a good episode, but Jack Dalton as god always seemed really silly to me. Maybe just because I watched MacGyver before I ever saw Quantum Leap.

Did The Wire suddenly get better last season? I keep hearing how great it was but when that show first came out I couldn't stand it.

Buffy episode 2.14, "Innocence"

After sleeping with Buffy, Angel loses his soul and becomes evil. It was the first time an episode of television knocked me on my ass. I guess I was 14 when I first saw it, but it still holds up.

Also, the Angel series finale is close to perfect.

the best hour of tv i have seen was when we found a tv. carried to some railroad tracks.
set the tv at the bottom of an incline.
aqquired a bowling ball.
and set things right.

i dont know that it took exactly an hour. but it was a strectch of time. and the best with at teevee.

You have bad taste, sorry wink. The first season was great.

And this season has been called one of the best seasons of TV, ever. It really is brilliant (as good as the first seasons of the Sopranos), and it's a shame that more people aren't watching.

I was never a fan of the show, but the X-Files episode Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose was stunningly good. It was so good it made me like the rest of the show less by demonstrating how good the premise of the show could be if done correctly.

i've watched a lot of television over my life, so i'm only going to pick the best hour of tv i've recently viewed.

the honor goes to:

battlestar galactica - unfinished business

though i have to say that exodus part 2 almost wins for the inner-atmosphere jump. holy fucking shit.

I don't watch that much TV...and very rarely an hour of it. But one time my ex and I were on the couch and we came across Cinemax and there was this low budget softcore porn called Lord of the G-String's on. We couldn't turn it off. Hilarious.

Any low budget softcore porno featuring boing, foghorn and various other sound effects...well I say give them the $10,000 and don't even have the audience dial in their votes.

Has to be an hour? I'm quite partial to A Charlie Brown Christmas, but that's less than half an hour.

For longer-form dramatic works, probably any of the episodes of Kieslowski's 10-part Decalogue; released theatrically and on video here in the US, but it was filmed for Polish TV.
