I've searched and searched, read the TSA website and the website of the airline we're taking, but I would like someone who has actually flown recently to tell me what is allowed in carry-on luggage now, since the rules seem to change weekly.

Help?

When I flew a few weeks ago, you had to have any liquids, shampoo, lotions, etc. in small travel-sized containers. You put them in a big ziplock, and run them through the x-ray machine. I decided to just check my carry-on to avoid that.

Oh, and you can bring bottled water and food on board only if you purchase it AFTER going through security.

Not in your carry-on.

Further, domestic U.S., (international is different by country):

If you are traveling with any liquid, gel or aerosol items:
> Travelers may bring carry-on bags through security and aboard the aircraft with trial-size toiletries (3.4 ounces or less).
> Toiletries must fit in one, quart-size (7.5" x 8"), clear plastic zip-top bag.
> The zip-top bag may need to be presented separately at airport security so make sure it is easily accessible when you approach the screening area.
> Beverages or toiletries purchased inside the airport beyond the security checkpoints will be allowed onboard the aircraft.
> No lighters, knives, guns, forks, explosives, etc.

Items greater than 3.4 ounces and/or not contained in a zip-top bag may be allowed on board but must be declared to the TSA at the security checkpoint for screening. These items include baby formula, milk (to include breast milk), baby food, juice, medications and liquids/gels that are needed for diabetic or other medical conditions.

Wrapped packages are subject to inspection, so perhaps wrap them at your destination.

I love the TSA's suggestions for how to get through security. They basically break down to:

Wear flip-flops or slippers
Remove all jewelry, including body-piercing jewelry, and all metal hair clips
No belts
No metal buttons
No zippers
No underwire bras
No baggy or bulky clothing

Gee, thanks, TSA. You make this easy on a girl, you know?

Just check all your baggage, and get on the plane in a saran wrap bikini. It's going to be required soon enough anyway.
