In all fairness, the first film is a solid effort. But we could have done without the sequels.

No sequels, no Mr T as Clubber Lang. You fail.

I give props to Stallone though, few of us will look that good at 60.

That's because we don't have his money. If people had any sense they would boycott this movie.

Why? Because Stallone has a lot of money?

Yes, going to see movie with people who have money supports them, and they don't need more money. Stop supporting the greedy practices of capitalist pigs!

I'll have you know that I only watch films that are made out of twigs and leaves by immigrant farmers. To be fair, their version of Rocky VI was a tad bit lacking.

What kind of racist pig are you? El Rocky VI was a stunning masterpiece of emotion and high drama. I thought the scene where El Rocky finally beat his double-crossing coyote in a back-country grudge match was one of the most moving scenes in cinema history.

The first three quarters of the movie didn't provide enough character development for you?

No, they should have had the entire movie about Rocky the man.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
It would have been better to have seen Rocky push his body through the process of trying to get ready for a fight but to work through his relationship with his son and his new lady friend and Adriannne's death etc and then realise that he didn't actually need to go "toe to toe" to work out anything any more.

Stallone showed he had that instinct when he had him in his van questioning his motivation. He should have followed that and not tacked on/in the silly exhibition bout with the Champ.

Audiences maybe didn't like the lack of a "real" Rocky bout in 'V but what do they know, they'll be pulling popcorn out their arse cracks for longer than they remember what they watched?

He's probably on the phone to the surgeon who butchered...I mean surgically enhanced his Mother's face as I type this.

Dude, what did Stallone ever do to you? You have some serious Stallone-hate issues.

Take some time out from scratching your ass and read this scathing article regarding the new Rocky film.

Entertaining read but did he like the film or not? I'm guessing he did because he wrote a lot words about it and didn't give away the ending.

Seriously though, very interesting read but it ignores the fact that few of the fans of the series are coming at them from that perspective. I for instance am not a black man from Philidelphia, I am a white man from Scotland and my only other connection to Philidelphia is the Fresh Prince (for my shames). For me Rocky isn't from Philidelphia, he's from America (it could be Timbuktoo for all I knew of Philidelphia when I first watched Rocky) and he wasn't a white guy sticking it to a black guy, he was an underdog fighting the good fight and taking care of Adrian his lost puppy. A man overcoming adversity.

no shit. that 60 year old could kick the living shit out of me.

i liked the movie though, stallone was really, really good. it's easy to write him off as an actor, he's made so much shit and been shit in it, but every now and then he pulls it out. he doesn't have that many good performances to his name, but this was up there with copland.

I hardly found that article "scathing".

And considering the movie's 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes most critics seemed to enjoy it.

My two cents (and I am in fact from Philadelphia and lived in South Philly where the movie was set):

The first movie was a pretty good drama, involving and decently written. The next one wasn't as good, but it was an entertaining slide into camp.

The next three sucked. Transparent attempts to cash in on the first one, and pathetic ones at that. This slop train culminated in Rocky V, which was so putrid and ridiculous that it took 14 years to wash it from the conciousness of the movie watching public enough for this new project to hit the screen.

Since I've already seen the best Stallone movie I'll ever see (James Mangold's "Copland": holy shit, who knew Stallone could actually act?!?) I'll leave the new film to the viewers who weren't burned in the past by lots of awful Stallone films *cough* Judge Dredd *cough*.
