i forgot to provide a source for the seond quote when i submitted the article, and i never agreed to the inclusion of the image that accompanies it. honestly, i find the image, which depicts a catholic priest, not an evangelical pastor, offensive and tasteless.
Yeah, that's pretty fucked up. Are we supporting burning gays at the stake? Burning priests?
Just to clarify... I am speaking of the most despicable people in the world. The Extreme Hypocrites, that not only say do not do X (whatever), while doing X, but say it from the highest mountain & condemn those that are doing X while intending to sway the views of others from their position of influence using religion as a crutch.
I don't care what the X is, but simply the act of trying to demonize something that is a natural part of life and stir people into hate mongering is an unforgivable offence.
To despise hypocrites is to be hypocritical. At some point in time, in one way or another, we all are hypocrites; it is only in the degree and the scope that allows us to despise those on the farthest extreme.
So yea, that%u2019s exactly what this is all about.
Forgive me if I did not explain myself thoroughly earlier, after all it was 2:56 am lol.
isn't it a bit hypocritical for anyone to mock a man for lacking compassion, especially after the man made a career out of self-loathing in accordance to societal and familial ostracization even while hoping for his own religion to be more tolerant? i'm glad somebody decided to throw the first stone.
It's great that he finally came out (or rather, was outed). And hopefully what he's saying will make a difference as far as churches being more accepting of homosexuals. But I can't help but feel my compassion for this guy mixed with anger. No one forced him to become a priest, after all. And there are many churches where people walk in with unformed belief systems. How many children did this guy (up in his pulpit) fill the minds of? Because of his self-loathing there are no doubt many people walking around with bitterness towards homosexuals. people go to churches to get spiritual guidance after all (or they should, anyway)
so says one opinion
America is a vast and varied place
just because someone is different from you doesn't make them inferior (and my comment refers not to fuckhead homophobes but to people who go to church to get spiritual guidance)
Let's put it this way: if you go to a church to get spiritual guidance, you might get a Rev. King or an Archbishop Tutu. Or you might get Rev. Phelps or Pat Robertson.
On the other hand, if you go to a church to sing pretty music, you're probably going to find it no matter what church it is.

compassion isn't selective. if you think it is, you may relate more to the homophobes than you'd like. i didn't really need to point that out: your comment alone was brimming with hypocrisy.

uhh, how exactly was my comment brimming with hypocrisy? you seem to like attacking people rather than rationally dissecting what they're saying. you also seem to labor under the belief that the world (and emotions) are a black and white place, as opposed to a world of grey. and i really don't need a lecture from someone about the nature of compassion, or to be told that i'm a hypocrite based on faulty logic. compassion certainly is not selective. and unless one happens to be basic plant life, harboring one single emotion is truthfully rare
i would say admitting my compassion for this man (which I did, which you apparently missed) while also admitting anger at the damage he may very well have done, being in a position of authority and probably spending years spouting homophobic bile, is very honest.
apparently, you also labor under a (very antiquated, I must say) belief that contradictory emotins are not viable. this makes for a wonderful grounds by which to attack people, doesn't it? what can i, you seem to be lacking in compassion yourself
