When South African filmmaker Richard Stanleys low budget science fiction horror film Hardware was released in the early 90s many people heralded him as the new face of the genre. That is until his second feature, Dust Devil, was released in the States to dismal reviews and returns. Though Stanleys directors cut of Dust Devil was released in many other markets around the world, after many years Stanleys directors cut of Dust Devil has been released in the United States in a massive five disc...
Holy shit!!!! I may be the only one here who cares, but I fucking love this guy. Hardware is seriously one of my top 5 movies of all time! Dust Devil is pretty damn amazing also. I can't believe I didn't even know that they were FINNALY releasing a definitive DVD for it here in the US! Now if they could only give the same treatment to a Hardware DVD........
Like I said, no one else here may care or even konw about the amazing Mr. Stanley, but DRE, you really made my day. Thank you for this.
yeah, he's pretty underratted. hardware's up there for me too. i gotta check out the d-cut of dust devil . ..thats right, d-cut. thats media lingo from a true sad movie geek.
I'd really like to see Hardware. I didn't like Dust Devil; for me it was one of those premises that I read and then when I saw the movie it was nothing how I imagined it would be and that wasn't a good thing.
Once again Mr.Epstein, That is one Helluva Inteview, and I am so very glad that you had the opportunity (Jeaous, Thank You.. )
I just got the 5 disc Boxset of DUST DEVIL, and I will tell ya....this director may be forgotten when w go to think of good fliks, as I am still shocked by the amount of fols I meet who have never seen, let alone heard of, HARDWARE.
Again, we are treated to a desolate story in one of the most desolate places, The Outback...The character of The Dust Devil, and the complicate Magick, that I may add is right on the money when it comes to JuJu, especially when something like a gun is seen close to useless.
I have recommended this film, especially the limited Boxset, to all my members of The Abominable Apothecary, and I haven't heard anything but good things from them as well...
