What all of you fail to understand is the grim truth of internet deadpanning and the decisive follow-through it requires in never giving up, not once, nor betraying the sense of the scene. And what's more, until you become a linguist who has studied Yukatek linguistics and then seen the movie, you simply do not know if he's kidding or not.

That might be a sound argument if you could come up with some other motivation for the article. You could say it was serious, but you'll notice not a single person said something to the effect of "I'm right there with you brother," so if such were his intention, it's safe to assume that that failed as well. No, deadpanning is an art best used for inflammation - e.g., Stephen Colbert's speech at the Press Corps.

That's why Rob Corddry doesn't want to be friends with him.

Apocolyto strikes me as a Jesus allegory, sacrificing for the good of all. No?

Atlatl is náhuatl, not mayan, and you can't put a human head on one of those because they're rather small and were used to throw spears, not hold them...

The names are not all that improbable, in fact many mayan last names are those of animals, like Pech, Balam, Uk, or Pek... And you'll find names suck as Thirteen Rabbit, Water Dog, Hummingbird Feathering, or Smoking Shield in Aztec and Totonac cultures..

Quetzalcoatl? The name's Kukulcan...

I can't speak for him with any certainty, but I think he was responding to WADO rather than addressing the shortcomings of the article directly...

I think the problem here is that some people went to the serious store to pick up some reviews, but when they got home, found out that they had picked up the funny by mistake!

Aiiieee! Le embarras!

I'm completely lost, but I have to say that that was a somewhat entertaining read. For a few minutes.

To the select many,
Even if you're not sufficiently creative to think in the same non-trivial fashion, I'd have hoped you'd appreciate it when you read it. "Hope" not so much for your sake as non-discerning readers, but for humanity's cultural future. Take the blinders off and look around before speaking. Or, you know, just bury you head back in the sand and stop hassling the poor writers. Some of us are easily bored and need the entertainment. High-brow media commentary and naked chicks is where my head is at at the moment. (Yes, it seems like poor grammar, but in Yukatek "at at" means "residing at.")

Plus w@n. People who cannot follow a linguistic criticism are very very stupid.

I think it's awesome that somebody else beat me to the pedantic post about what an atlatl actually is. Good on you, friend.
