Don’t eat dinner before seeing Mel Gibson’s new movie, Apocalypto; the movie is crazy-bloody and violent. With the tag line, “When the end comes, not everyone is ready to go,” we should expect some beatings, but critics said the Disney film went a bit too far.

"The most violent movie Disney has ever released, with so much blood spurting out of orifices that even Martin Scorsese would blush," says FoxNews.com's Roger Friedman. "If you've wondered what it would be like to see heads and hearts removed without anesthesia, then this is the movie for you . . . The action is often cartoonish, and the dialogue - which is all spoken in some ancient dialect with subtitles - is often preposterous. In one scene, after what seems like the umpteenth bloody killing, one Mayan quips to another and the translation is, 'He's [bleeped].' "

Gibson directed and co-wrote the film, and he admitted the pressure from this film caused his out-of-control drinking, which came to a head during his infamous DUI arrest last summer.

Speaking on Spanish news show Aqui Y Ahora, Gibson revealed his ambitious new movie led him back to the bottle.

When a host asks if the "stress and driving yourself to a limit of knowing what you could do with this film perhaps led you back to drinking," Gibson replies, "Absolutely, I think there's a lot of pressures."

And Jews. Jews can really drive a man to drink.

I understand you have a thing against Gibson and all, but regardless of your bias against him, his films (that he's personally directed specifically) have been widely accepted as being rather decent films. Gory, most definitely, but I think you're definitely spinning this one to make it sound like critics hate the film, when in fact advance reviews have been quite positive. Check out rotten tomatoes if you're interested in more than one out-of-context blurb on what people think of the film. Even the negative reviews state that, regardless of their overall feelings on the film, he certainly knows how to make a thrilling, immersive movie.

And yeah, like you, I'm not a fan of Gibson's rants, same as I'm not a fan of Russel Crowe's phone-throwing or bullying, but that doesn't take away from the fact that both are quite good at what they do professionally.

Sorry to knock you off your soapbox, but sometimes your bullheaded agenda is so blind that it borders on obsessively inane.

Mel Gibson drove me back to the bottle. I can't be held responsible for anything I say or do, because of Mel Gibson.

So now I am gonna say "Tilapia." Tilapia" is fun to say! Whoo! I am almost as fucking crazy as Mel Gibson! Wooooooo! Spinning around in office chairs is FUN!

(I'm not really sure what my point in, here but I feel like I've made it.)

Oh, and maybe I will go see it. If it's half as good as Cannibal Women in the Avacado Jungle of Death, another gory jungle culture favorite of mine, it will be worth the ticket price. Though, I think I will wait till it's in second run theaters. Just in case.

This was one of those things where i didn't see the 'bullheaded agenda.' Based on this I wouldn't be at all surprised if Alyk went to see it herself. Are you?

Wow. I really don't know where you got all that from.
Please cite the part that was "bullheaded" or "blind" or "obsessively inane" whatever the fuck that means...

In fact, I don't see where Alyk criticised the movie at all...

Though I believe Mel Gibson to be a caricature of a clown, the man has done some fairly original things with movie-making. Also, I've long been fascinated with the Mayan culture - one particularly violent for particularly odd and fantastic reasons. This is all to say that I admit to being fairly stoked to see the movie - all obvious and expected retardedness (not a word) aside.

I'm so sorry about all those phone calls I made to your home complaining about Mel Gibson; I was way out of line, and I apologize.

Stop assuming you know dick about the people who write these stories. Because you don't, unless I mistakeningly invited you to my last houseparty.

Oh damn, was that YOU on the phone a few minutes ago? wink

But seriously, barring the last bit about being bullheaded etc, which I understand was probably too confrontational (and apologies if you were personally offended), you failed to address the meat of my post, which is that critics seem to love the movie, and "overly-violent" wasn't really an issue for most of the current reviewers.

I dont agree with Gibson's views, but goddamn i want to see this. And so what if i'm supporting him, a lot of other people worked hard to make this movie happen too, and a lot of them probably arent anti-Semitic assholes.

+1
I thought Passion of the Christ was awesome.

As far as I'm concerned the genre of apocalyptica is due for a big resurgence outside those crappy Left Behind books

I know this is about Mayans, but Aztecs are somewhat close.
I'm part Aztec.
My ancestors used to remove hearts and heads without a second thought, and it doesnt' bother me one bit.
Hell, I'd do it now if I could.
Bring on the gore.

Are you just Aztec or Aztec + Conquistador. I thought there weren't any more just Aztecs and they all mixed together a long time ago.

I don't know.
My grandother died before I was born or else I could ask her, seeing as how she's the one that was a large part Aztec.
