I watched this film about ten years ago called "Leningrad Cowboys Go America" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097728/). It was released in 1989, but I didn't watch until I saw it on IFC in like '96. It's very dry humor, but I'm not sure if it's everyone's taste. That's why I made this thread.

If there's a movie, so obscure that you enjoy, tell us about it. biggrin

I dunno if it counts as obscure or not, but I love Hal Hartley's "Flirt".

Not sure if this would be considered obscure:

I'm not familiar with Hartley's films. What kinds of movies does he generally make? Or is he random with what he does?

Oh and good choice, Unraveled. lol

I'd rather call it underappreciated than obscure, but: shakes the clown, written by, directed by, and starring bobcat goldthwait.

I love that movie! There's just something about a drunk clown being peed on that's just hilarious. lol

That's a great one. Here's some more that aren't quite obscure but not quite blockbusters:

This one wasn't a really quality flick but it had some cool moments- and great music:

Hmm...in general I'd say there's nothing that most of his films tend to be "about", though a lot of them feature quirky people. The thing that sticks to mind in his films for me is the odd way in which people talk...it's this strange combination of a feeling that you're watching a play being made into a movie, and of kind of halting, overly thought-out speech. At first it feels really strange to watch and it throws you off, but once you get used to it it's really neat. I've loved almost every single one of his movies.

And PRockGirlScout, The Last Supper is a friggin awesome movie. I love it when other people have heard of it!

The Hudsucker Proxy, Ginger Snaps, and Brick?

I'm not sure what constitutes an obscure movie, mostly because a lot of the people I know never hear of anything that isn't given a major theatrical release.

Intacto seems like a pretty interesting film. Is it subtitled? I'm OK with that if it is.

I guess the word "obscure" was a bad choice when I created this thread. If you like something you think others haven't heard of, throw it up here.

I really enjoyed Brick. I haven't seen too many old detective movies, but it definately feels like it. It's a really cool idea for a movie.

OK, I know how this looks but really, it's a cute little flick. Why do so many of the movies I like show up on rottentomatoes? confused blush

I JUST NOW watched this one:

It was a film noir detective type movie set in a high school. Pretty awesome, and starring the kid from Third Rock From the Sun.
