Lost star Josh Holloway landed the much sought-after role of Gambit in the next X-Men installation. Unfortunately the film will be without most of its previous stars—Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, and Hugh Jackman will not be featured—leaving producers to search for some hot new actors for the marquee.

Holloway previously landed the role of Gambit in X-Men: The Last Stand, but pulled out of the project at the last minute. This time, producers aren’t letting him get away.

The film’s producer Lauren Shuler Donner tells Moviehole, “Remember in Lost? There was a guy in there that was the perfect Gambit, the guy with the straight hair, good-looking, the bad boy… Sawyer. The reason we didn’t use Gambit was because in a sense his persona is a bit like Wolverine in that he’s got attitude and his power is not quite as exciting as the others. That’s why we went to Nightcrawler on 2 because he looked different than everybody else and he had a great power. So yes, I think we would weave Gambit within our story, (but) it wouldn’t be The Gambit Movie.”

Despite his success with Lost, Holloway’s film career failed to take off. He played “Lana's Toyboy” on the canceled Lyon’s Den, and also shined as “the purse-snatcher” in some Aerosmith video. Hopefully, this role can jumpstart his movie career.

Hugh Jackman said something during an interview for the Fountain yesterday that makes me think they are actually making a Wolverine movie...as in...just him.

They said there wouldn't be a 4th X-Men.

If it's Wolverine the movie...why and how?

And if it's X-Men 4...no Storm, no Magneto - what kind of an X-movie would that be?

Are Halle and Hugh not interested in being in the movie or are they just not in this storyline?

I wonder how they'll work the Ice-Man, Rogue, Gambit thing.

They just want to not get stuck in a rut, hence the Wolverine movie, the Magneto movie, the... X-Kids movie. I kind of wish I was kidding for that last one, but... there you go.

Well, Gambit was a Swamp Dwellin Cajun... thats pretty damn redneck-ish. As long as he doesn't say "I guarentee!" I'm cool

but yeah, Gambit was easily the best one, he even got Rogue, the best female X-"person"

you're kidding....right?

you do realize that the majority of the X-Men comics involved villains other than Magneto, right?

and besides, last time i checked Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, and Halle Berry were their real names....actors who played Magneto, Wolverine, and Storm. they mention nothing about those characters[i/] being in the next movie, just those particular actors...

They could go all out and get Apocalypse as the main bad guy, but just offing him in 1 movie seems a little assine. Other then that, all the other cronies were just underlings of the Magento or Apoc. Not to say they didn't kick ass though

You I wouldn't have thought of him, but he will make a good Gambit. And I hate Gambit.

I just hope there is some sort of movie left for him to act in.

Yeah, but when you change actors for an already established movie, it usually sucks terribly. Not always, but usually.

Strange to see Angel and Iceman listed as the younger members. They were part of the original five.

I am well aware of the X-Men comic universe. I just mean that dumping half the cast who actually made the films worth watching (No Ian McKellen? Are you fucking kidding me?) does not reflect well on it. Sorry, but it doesn't. I don't care how many awesome characters there are in the Marvel canon, it's who plays then that matters. Can you honestly say there was a single actor worth watching X-Men 3 for bar Hugh Jackman and Ian McKellen? Not to say everyone else was shit, but they couldn't carry the film in the same way these guys did. They would have to seriously impress me, so they couldn't just do another X3 and think I'd like that.

I am also well aware of the cast members names (as you so patronisingly decided to point out to me) and I'm not sure what you mean. They can't play other characters in a new film, that'd be ridiculous.

Come on. Can you really see someone better for Wolvie or for Magneto? I sure as hell can not.
-laughs-
Storm eh. I'm not too fond of Halle even if she did perform well. And she looks nothing like Ororo. At least I don't reckon.

If Gambit does NOT say I gar-an-tee.

I shall scream. Walk out of the movie. Proceed to beat movie exec upon head with baseball bat for sheer idioocy.

On and Lycorice Anna Paquin is in her late twenties tongue Doubtful. Highly.

PS Cajuns ARE rednecks tongue Just a very odd variety of such.
Anywho!

You can't continue having Magneto as the villain in every movie. That's just silly.

And he didn't mean they'd play other characters...he meant there might be different actors playing those characters.

But I doubt that happens.
