Will Farrell recently admitted he turned down a fortune to star in Elf 2. Producers offered Farrell a staggering $29 million to reprise his role as Buddy the Elf in the Christmas-themed movie. The 2003 original struck box office gold, but Farrell claimed he couldn’t stand the failure of a sequel. He also hinted the script to the sequel wasn’t up to snuff.

"I was offered $29 million for a sequel, but I never liked it. It does seem a lot of money for a guy to wear tights. It's insane. But it wasn't difficult to turn down. I remember asking myself could I withstand the criticism when its bad and they say, 'He only did the sequel for the money.'

"I decided I wouldn't be able to. I didn't want to erase all the good work I've done, but you watch - I'll do some sequel in the future that's crap."

Farrell also shot down a sequel to Old School.

"I wouldn't do another Old School. They put these rumors out there, but I would never be behind that one."

Things seem to be going well for Farrell personally as well; the actor recently announced he and wife Viveca are expecting their second child.

I hope he dies soon. I hate every character he has ever played. They are all exactly the same.

I really liked Stranger Than Fiction, which actually made me respect him a bit as an actor, and now this makes me respect him more.

Wow. Look at all the roles he has done, yet he's the most respectable actor ever.

Huh. Elf was cute, but I didn't know it was "box office gold."

I like Wil Ferrell. Good on him for his decision!

I'm sure he's no fan of your creative output either.

So he DOES do sequels.

Stranger Than Fiction was a good movie....but I agreed with the professor. Krick should have died to complete the story.

Yeah, I know. That Elf and his role as that prison informant in Starsky & Hutch are practically the same thing.

Maybe he changed his mind about sequels after appearing in an Austin Powers sequel, reprising his role as Mustafah.

Yeah, I liked the parts in the city (with Peter Dinklage, especially), but the whole beginning, North Pole part is pretty tedious.

A sequel would be more tedious.

Sometimes I wish there were some way to obscure your text when you talk about the end of a movie that hasn't even been out for three fucking weeks. You know, so that maybe people who haven't seen it yet can choose not to have the ending spoiled for them?

Man, I am sorry about that. I totally forgot about the SPOILERS option. I guess because everyone I know in person has seen it...I assumed everyone in here had too. I'll try to be less retarded in the future.....if that's possible.

Oh, come on! A movie is more than just how the story ends. What you're doing is akin to a Harry Potter fan whining about how people were talking about Dumbledore dying before they got a chance to read the book. Yeah, you know he's going to die, and in some cases you knew who killed him, but that doesn't detract from the story at all.

Also, I gave out less details than a film critic would have given.

I hope you never read Roeper or Ebert, because, by your definition, they "ruin" movies all the time.

I never read Roeper so I can't say anything in his defense, but I am an avid reader of Ebert and he goes to great lengths to preserve spoiler moments in the films he reviews. Occasionally he will reveal more than he desires, but it is always prefaced with a large warning stating such.

Even more specifically his review of Stranger Than Fiction barely-almost-kinda-sorta alludes to a possible fate of the main character(s) but still doesn't state it in such blatency.

Aside from all of that your point is so incredibly painfully moot. When someone opens up the Chicago Sun to read one of Ebert's reviews they are obviously expecting to gain knowledge of the specific movie they are reading about. When someone reads a thread on the newswire about an actor turning down a sequel should they be expecting the same thing?

...you know, I was more surprised that anybody thought Dumbledore was going to make it out of the series any way but feet first. Hell, I cracked jokes about it before the previous book had been published.

Anyway, Will Farrell's quality, IMO, peaks quickly in general. The less he's in the movie, down to around a ten minute guest appearance, the funnier he and the movie are because of it.

I'm glad to see that there is at least one person in Hollywood realizes that sometimes, one of something is enough. I might be more willing to get off my ass and go to the theatres more than a couple times a year if everything didn't seem to be sequels, remakes, or concepts that have been done to death. Until then, I will be spending time at home with my Tivo, my video game systems, and my stack of books.

Damn, I'm so used to clicking on spoilers that it didn't even cross my mind that the spoiler tag would actually be used for a spoiler. Duh.
