Altman, the director of MASH, Nashville, and The Player passed away earlier today.

A five-time Academy Award nominee for best director, most recently for 2001's "Gosford Park," he finally won a lifetime achievement Oscar in 2006.

"No other filmmaker has gotten a better shake than I have," Altman said while accepting the award. "I'm very fortunate in my career. I've never had to direct a film I didn't choose or develop. My love for filmmaking has given me an entree to the world and to the human condition."

Edit--since I didn't use the search function, here is the Trailer for Nashville.

Um. Wow. Don't know what to say. He was one of two directors that made me waste my time on a film degree. Fuck. One of the few authentic geniuses of American cinema. Ask 10 people to name their favorite Altman film and you'll probably get 10 different answers.

There will be no more Robert Altman movies ..... it hasn't quite sunk in yet.

Rest in peace.

Man, a true genius up to the very end. There are few movies I love more than McCabe & Mrs. Miller.

Why are there news articles about stupid celebrity trash, but not a proper one for this. Sad times.

I love my Altman.
