I know you are not all drunk fat racists but remember that these kids were bombed out their minds and signed a legal document while intoxicated. That folks is illegal. If it is proven that Cohen or the other producers had them sign while intoxicated then they will win their case and Borat will go down in flames.

Also, have any of you even consider that he insulted an entire culture and nation in Kazakhstan? I have a friend from there and she is pissed about the movie.

He wasn't making them drink, he wasn't pouring liquor down their throats, they chose to drink.

Kazakhstan should get a sense of humor. This movie made our country look ignorant, everyone knows that he's kidding about Kazakhstan. I was sitting there hoping that the rest of the world doesn't think that all of us are like that......

No shit! The U.S. came off way, WAY worse than Kazakhstan.

The people in the film CHOSE to sign the releases, they CHOSE to appear on camera, and they CHOSE to spew racist and misogynist bullshit while being filmed. And now they're choosing to compound their embarrassment by trying to blame someone else for their stupid behavior. Tough shit, say I.

Tough shit for these assholes. I agree. And as for all the complaints about Borat, I say reductio ad absurdum is a completeley legit form of political commentary.

I agree about that I don't think the movie was intended to bash anyone... I think sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself and stop taking everything so seriously. And... Make sure you read something before you sign it... biggrin

*Fun fact about Kazakhstan: Did you know that Almati, Kazakhstan's capital didn't exists officially during the Soviet era. That's because it was the main arms production center for the entire Soviet Union. It wasn't on any map! So now you know. wink

Just as a fact check: AlmatY is no longer the capital of kazakhstan. Once they gained their independence, they moved their capital to Astana.

(Mental Note) Do not sign legal documents or consent/release forms for film/video, tape recorder, ect. and then proceed to 1) Drink heavily 2) Make racist, sexist comments 3) Threaten people with violence.

I don't think I would be making any of the comments that these people made to embarass themselves on film. The stupid college kids should have been a little more carful, guess they didn't take public relations class yet.

I think the entire movie is a disgrace and I regert giving my money to this idiot. He does nothing more than a "Jackass" style satire of American culture. He has done nothing to explain why he chose the locations of his flm and remains in character when he goes to talk shows. I wont lie and say I ddin't laugh but I wanted to leave after about 5 minutes of the film.

BTW, I felt bad for the jewish couple, the people in the elevator, conference and even the christians that he mocks. I know a lot of people take issue with fundamental churches but they are trying to fix a serious problem in our society and culture. I just happen to disagree with their methodology but I see the same problems.

Keri, were you surprised by how your town acted? I think they realized he was a freak after a couple lines but clapped because he was talking about the President and War.

You wanted to leave after 5 minutes but didn't ? You have some strong convictions there. If it bothered you so much, why did you stay then ? Or was the $6.25 you paid to see it more important then your beliefs ?

Don't sit here and tell everyone how terrible it was, or how disgusting it was, and why it is wrong, after you sat through the entire movie instead of growing some balls and walking out on it.

While I do think that aspects of Borat's humor are outside of the bounds of what I'd normally consider acceptable, I don't think he's exploitative. He basically let's people make asses of themselves.

The key to the Borat character is his wide-eyed innoncence.

He SEEMS like a nice, harmless and even helpless person. No matter what sort of reprehensible things he says. If you watched the show he used this to great effect with a Republican U.S. Rep who brought Borat along for campaign stops. Along with teling voters that the Rep would be "Strong like Stalin!" he also managed to get him to admit that he felt Jews would go to Hell.

Ali G draws upon people thinking that kids are stupid. Before he start the parts of the interviews that we see, he tends to say things to prepare the subject for just how stupid he is.

Bruno is interesting inasmuch as he's a dual-edged (gay) blade. He's great at drawing out homophobia as well as the more extreme ends of the fashionista set.
